for real

[CLARIFICATION:
The source I noted in this post Is not the author. I apologize if my wording confused anyone. He, in fact, even mentioned that he saw it at the blog of one on his wife's blogroll. So the mystery of authorship continues.....]

I'm sick of comparisons between Obama and Palin with regard to the issue of experience, but given McCain's age it's obvious why such comparisons are being made. Untalented Writer (a misnomer if there ever was one) shared this piece at his blog. It places that argument about candidate experience, character, and credentials in the spotlight, and then puts them to rest.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'

*
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

*
If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

*
Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

*
Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

*
Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

*
If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

*
If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

*
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

*
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

*
If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

*
If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

*
If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

*
If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DUI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

Ahh double-standards. Don'tcha love them?

Barack Obama has a grandmother (or something) who lives in Birmingham, UK. Pointless, but true.

On the subject of politics though a Party Election broadcast came on the other day and the smart looking bloke said : Hello, i'm Nick Clegg - leader of the Liberal Democrat Party.

It took me by surprise - the man's PR has been so unsuccessful that i didn't have a clue who he was...yet i'd voted for his bunch at the last local election! (NB: Over here voting Lib Dem is generally considered a wasted vote, but you gotta try!)

I, for one, am sick to death of politics and politicians! I have no use for any of them. They all talk trash about each other. And they all make promises they have no intentions of keeping.

DFTP,
So funny, that Clegg story! He needs new PR folks. I was interested in the Lib Dem info. Question: do the royals let their political preferences be known?

WW,
Youch! (yes and ouch) Hope Cody enjoys it.

RL1963,
I hear ya. I guess I'm more a political animal, though, and become involved in spite of the negativity.

Lisa,
Great! This one got Mike's attention, a good indicator because he gets kinda overloaded with stuff I ask him to read about the election. ;)

Hi Lydia - the Royal Family usually keep their political views quiet. It wouldn't really be the good thing to do since officially whoever wins the election still needs to ask the Queen for permission to form a government. It's a fairly open secret though that the Queen did not like Margaret Thatcher one bit.

If i had to guess then i'd say as landed gentry they're more likely to vote Conservative than the other parties - but maybe the younger generations (William & Harry etc) may be more independant...

This reminds me - i think my next post will be related to the Queen...

And that's not even touching on the "elitism"...a transparent substitution for "uppity" if there ever was one....

Lydia, Thanks for giving a name to the person who created this. Friend sent it out though frustrated that no one knew the source. Aha!

You are too kind to those who cop out about voting. The league of "Know-Nothings" is disturbing large in America. How can people live and not participate in our most basic freedoms? That was rhetorical.

Naomi,
I sure didn't intend to give the impression that I was going light on the idiots who choose not to vote! That segment is one of my biggest bugaboos.
Along that line, the commentary by Leonard Pitts Jr. published 09-23 is excellent:
