Earth Hour 2009: whistling away the dark

.

Whistling Away the Dark,
sung by Julie Andrews, from the film Darling Lili. Video features photographs of sunsets around the world.

Are you all ready and excited for Earth Hour? You're not alone, as according to this article, the momentum is really accelerating:

Earth Hour is a sort of open-source movement against global warming. On Saturday, March 28, at 8:30 p.m. in each time zone, millions of people in thousands of cities are expected to turn off the lights for one hour to raise people's consciousness about the link between global warming and energy use.

Started in Australia two years ago, the event is mushrooming thanks in part to the Internet and social media.

One day before the start of the event in Asia, "Earth Hour" is the top search item on Twitter. A 30-second clip about Earth Hour on You Tube has gotten almost 59,000 views. Facebook groups count hundreds of thousands of members.

"SEE" you in the dark.......

Well, it's not as if there is anything on TV tonight.

I could go see "Titanic" at the theatre instead. And yes, there is a moment in the film where the ship goes all dark. However, it never lights up again.

looking forward to the dark and quiet. . . if it's not cloudy, we'll look at the stars, if it is cloudy we'll look at the clouds, if it's raining we'll get wet.

@dmarks- However, it never lights up again.......You are funny! I'd love to see Titanic in a theater again, and this seems a good night to do that.

@Koe- Yes, looking forward to the dark and quiet here too. And it IS raining heavily here. We've already been soaked today, so will be by the gas stove at Earth Hour.

Julie's voice is enchanting! This makes me want to watch the Sound of Music!

I'm still laughing about the Titanic...well played, dmarks. I so enjoy some gallows humor every now and again. Okay, every day.

Miss Lydia, this youtube choice was perfection. happy lights out to all.

@Marie Reed- I hardly recognized you with your new avatar! Maybe you could persuade Julie Andrews to sing at your wedding. :)

@Distracted- Yeah, dmarks, keep 'em coming.
Glad you liked the selection. And a happy night in the dark was had by all, I presume. I did a zigsaw puzzle by candlelight.....not an easy task!
