Old Postcard Wednesday--Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, California

This is the boulevard of dreams, yet there is nothing here.
- attributed to a character in film titled Hollywood Boulevard

I'm going to college. I don't care if it ruins my career. I'd rather be smart than a movie star. - Natalie Portman

A movie star is not an artist, he is an art object. -Richard Schickel

If God doesn't destroy Hollywood Boulevard, he owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology. - Jay Leno

I used to think as I looked at the Hollywood night, "there must be thousands of girls sitting alone like me, dreaming of becoming a movie star. But I'm not going to worry about them. I'm dreaming the hardest. -Marilyn Monroe

Being a movie star, and this applies to all of them, means being looked at from every possible direction. You are never left at peace, you're just fair game. -Greta Garbo

We movie stars all end up by ourselves. Who knows? Maybe we want to. -Bette Davis

Ah, stardom! They put your name on a star in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard and you walk down and find a pile of dog manure on it. That tells the whole story, baby. -Lee Marvin

I went there once when I was a kid, (my one and only time abroad). I remember being hugely unimpressed.. by everything in L.A! I didn't even like the chocolate. I spent two weeks there and have no outstanding memories apart from the fact that we left in the snow, flew over nothing but snow and landed in 80 degree heat. I liked the weather! lol

It only seems natural to want to visit there, but I just don't care to?!?!

Maybe it's because there is far too much pavement ;)

I love old postcard day! And I particularly love this post--both the postcard and the quotes.

I've never been, but I'd love to go. Especially before that whole Soddom and Gommorah thing happens.

I love the old postcard, it lets you see what it used to be. Today its not as beautiful and grand but once it held total magic! I love the sayings from the actors and actresses. Cool post, thanks :)

Thank you ,that was a rather moving post.A film Noir kind of magic moment that is fleeting yet lingers somewhere in the back of your memory .
I really enjoy visiting your blog .
I always get the feeling that I have done my morning pages from the Artist Way whenever I stop by.
It's been a long time since I 've had this kind of feeling. It is really quite nice.
You have a very special place here
I am so glad your sharing.
Thank you.
Have a fabulous week.

@the watercats- I think it's sad that LA is your only travel spot in the U.S. Fortunately, it's still not representative of most of the rest of the country. When I was little our family went to Santa Monica, where my mother lived in high school. We didn't go into LA at all.

@Wayfaring Wanderer- I have zilch inclination to travel to LA. There are far too many more places I want to see, that my soul needs, and LA doesn't qualify!

@Kim- I hope you do get to see it sometime then. I would like to see more of southern California, the places you don't hear about.....

@Looking to the Stars- You have a feeling for the place, or the time, I can tell. I do so love the old movies from the real glory days of Hollywood.

@Terry- I am as close to speechless after reading your comments as I've been since I started this blog. Really. Your words lifted my spirits and made my week! Thank you so much. :)

I lived in California for years and never made it to Hollywood! I rather think that I was subconsciously avoiding it...afraid of the how it's changed... I like the glittering glamorous Hollywood of my imagination better the the real McCoy!

@Marie Reed- That surprises me that you lived in California. Were you originally from France, though?
I liked the way you explained never visiting Hollywood while there.

Great postcard! I love the quotes that accompanied it too!

@Aimee- Thanks much! I'm glad you found my Wednesday postcard and I'm coming to see if you have one posted for Postcard Friendship Friday (I'm guessing that's how you found me).
