a picture, a poem, a partnership, a parting

Haiku 1952

It seems our eyes closed.
Mine squeezed - but your lids parted.
You kept me in sight.

I love the picture below and it is a very nice poem, too.

The picture of the little girl with (her mother?) is that you perhaps?
anyway, it's really sweet with a lot of affinity.

That just might be the most beautiful picture I've ever seen. Did you write the haiku? Love it.

@Sarah Sofia- Happy Mother's Day to you. After reading your questions about the post I added a bit more info at the bottom. Yes, that is my mother and me. We were so close. Thanks for the goodie-link. I will visit it this evening! :)

@Distracted- Thanks and Happy Mother's Day to you. I hope you are able to see both of your grrrrlz.

@Erin- It means so much that you feel this shot. I've always thought it caught quite a moment. The only copy existing is in a 3x5 folder frame. So when I scanned it last night and was able to see it enlarged for the first time it was an ah-hah moment to see her eyes weren't shut tight like mine. And I then wrote the haiku....

@Erin- I certainly meant to wish you Happy Mother's Day!

@Erin- gads, the little original photo is 2x3, not 3x5.

That is a picture about the secret joys of motherhood. It's what we mothers in general do not share with others, that love affair that can be so overwhelming.

Beautiful, awesome photo. Title of the post is wonderful too--a Haiku of its own.

You and your mother are so lovely Lydia! Based on your profile photo I would say your mother looks like you.

Mothers day has always been a hard day to get through for me..I'm not a mother though tried for years to well "you know" and for whatever reason it never happened..a big "void" in my life where I'm unable to connect with women in that "realm". Also there are no good memories of me as a child with my mother..none..only bad..I don't mean to be negative just honest. However I do love kids and teens and have always felt a connection with them and they me..it's very strange I cannot explain it's just always been there..they trust me and I like to rock out and dance with them and listen to them..

Well mothers day is gone and past now and I'm sorry that I feel relief..but to have gotten through another one and not feel to sad about it much is another little miracle for me.

Hope your Sunday was a good one filled with wonderful memories of your mother..

Love, Rhi

@Robin- Thank you so much! I must say I had a beautiful visit to your blog and shop yesterday, and I will return. :)

@Hattie- I read your comment hours and hours ago and thought about it for hours and hours. It was as if my mother whispered to me through your words. Thank you.

@Naomi- It pleases me so that others are appreciative of this photo that means so much to me. And thanks for your comment about the title, too.

@Looking to the Stars- It is the sweetest thing that you can celebrate the love shown in this photo while not having had that same connection yourself (yes, I read your poignant post about your mother). Shows how special you are.

@Kim- Thanks! This means you have returned from your vacation? Or maybe you're blogging while away....I must come find out.

@Rhi- Your comments are so touching. Similar to what I said to Looking to the Stars, it is special to me that you see the beauty in another mother-daughter relationship while not having those kinds of memories yourself. You know that I also never had kids and I, like you, have a real connection with kids and teens. These are the blessings in our lives then.

That is an adorable photo.....your momma was a looker eh?!

Lydia said...

@Wayfaring Wanderer- I love it too. She never thought of herself as good looking, and she told me that no one ever referred to her as being beautiful until after her 68th birthday. I can see why; she was good looking when younger but really had a luminous loveliness in her 70s and early 80s.
