I'll have another Pink Martini, please

We saw Pink Martini in concert Friday night at the Oregon State Fair. I rarely use this, but.....OMG!

Pink Martini is now on tour (schedule-click!) ..... heads up all you living near the Hollywood Bowl, Henderson, Boulder, Sante Fe, Tucson,
San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Saratoga, Redding, Arcata, and Tacoma.

Pink Martini
Portland, United States (1994 – present)
Somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band and Japanese film noir is the 12-piece Pink Martini.

Part language lesson, part Hollywood musical, the Portland, Oregon-based ‘little orchestra’ was created in 1994 in Portland, Oregon by Harvard graduate and classically trained pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale to play at political fundraisers for progressive causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, clean water, and public broadcasting. He soon invited fellow Harvard alumna China Forbes to sing with the band.

The group made its European debut at the Cannes Film Festival and in the years following went on to tour throughout Europe (including France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland and Monte Carlo), Greece, Turkey, Taiwan, Lebanon and the United States. Equally at home performing its multi-lingual repertoire on concert stages and smoky bars, Pink Martini draws a wildly diverse crowd.

Hi Lydia, this sounds like lots of fun, love the latin beats... shades of Buena Vista Social Club. Thanks for the tip, hadn't come across these folks before, always nice to discover new music...

This is the first I've heard Pink Martini, but it certainly sounds like good stuff.

You got the singer's phone number, by any chance? I suspect she and I would be perfect for each other...

I continue to be amazed at all the different music in the Portland area. Our daughters take full advantage, believe me. Thanks for the review.

@bk- Would be outstanding to see them and dance to their music in NYC. Or Paris. Or Spain. Or Switzerland..... even the State Fair morphed into something else entirely when Pink Martini was on stage.

@Owen- Buena Vista Social Club, yes. I'm glad you like them and maybe will have a chance to see them in France in the future.

@YogaforCynics- Marvelous stuff. I suspect you and China Forbes would be perfect for each other, too, but unfortunately I do not have her number. Consider following the link to their website and leaving her a message there. She'll probably leave the tour and race to Philly...

@littlebird- That's so cool! I'm going to be getting a new cd of theirs too. Shop for dancing shoes now. :)

@Nancy- That thrills me to know your daughters do take full advantage of the music scene in Portland. Great talent grows in and is attracted to Portland. Pink Martini has to be at the top of the pack. :)

WOW Now this makes me want a pink martini now. I love diversity in music, and this matches my eclectic taste buds to a T.
Thank you, Lydia~~`

@Lille- So weird! I just returned from your other blog after reading the excerpt from your book to find a message from you here!
Good goin' on the book. You deserve some Pink Martini cds to assist your continued writing, most definitely.

Oh I love this music! I have managed to see the Buena Vista Social twice here and rather similar. Thanks for that, as the naughty Owen says it's always good to hear new stuff! Cheers.

Amazing post, I love this band, I really love them, they are incredible. I like for example the classic songs they choose to perform, and how they do it in their own way, very different from the original versions, but excelent as well. And they have such amazing singers that can sing incredibly well. Along with the band that is also composed with excelent musicians.
I probably have listen to their first 2 albums arround 500 times each one of them. Although if I have to choose I wil stay with the first one, I think it is the best.
Wierd that they started that many years ago, I thought they where more recent, cause they have only to relativelly recent albums in stock, well now the third which I have not listen to yet is also edited. I am so excited about listening to the last one, I found out it existing thanks to your post.

Thanks a lot lydia, and hugs.

@The Sagittarian- Glad to have you here and hear! I really envy you seeing the Buena Vista Social Club...guess I should buy the dvd or cd, although I was able to download an mp3 from the website just for giving them my email address. I thought that was a fair trade. :)

@Looking to the Stars- Just your cup of tea and heading to your vicinity. Catch 'em if you can!

@Darlene- These videos don't have the greatest sound. I really hope you make sure to get tickets for their Tucson performance, because the sound will be full and great!

@Yoga Tramp- I hope they visit your area in the near future, too!

@Phivos- Yes, absolutely! I think you would love an evening of their entertainment, friend. :)

@Mariana- You are so fantastic! Look at all you know about this orchestra so far away in Argentina! Now when I listen to them I will think of you and what I have also learned about Pink Martini from you!

@Ted- Why, Mr. Bagley, I do believe you must be a fan of Pink Martini's second cd! ;)
