song of yesterday

In my sidebar the second goody from the top is A.Word.A.Day, and when I saw that today's word is Beau Brummel it brought back memories of an early 1960s group, The Beau Brummels. Wow, what a simpler time although I think I romanticize it in my memories. I still love the music from back then. Like "they" say: listening to songs from your past takes you right back to the moment in time when the music was current.

This video is offered at youtube by someone named John1948One who provides great information about the group, including:
While they only had two big hits, the Beau Brummels were one of the most important and underrated American groups of the 1960s. They were the first U.S. unit of any sort to successfully respond to the British Invasion. They were arguably the first folk-rock group, even predating the Byrds, and also anticipated some key elements of the San Francisco psychedelic sound with their soaring harmonies and exuberant melodies. Before they finally reached the end of the string, they were also among the first bands to record country-rock in the late '60s.
The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame lists this song, Laugh Laugh, as one of the 500 greatest songs in rock history. It was one of my favorites, most definitely. The video is a splice of two separate performances, with some brief hysterical dancing. Check out that Frug and that Jerk!

For more information on The Beau Brummels visit the website established by Sal Valentino, the group's lead singer, who still performs with his own band.

While on the topic of music...... I've become a huge fan of Alexa Ray Joel (she is the daughter of Billy Joel and Christy Brinkley). There are some bootleg videos of her performances at youtube but they are of poor quality. However, Alexa has her own youtube channel where she currently offers three videos, one featuring a song titled: Song of Yesterday that I can't stop listening to. There is no embed code for videos at her channel so I can't post it here. If you have a spare moment to click on the link I promise you won't be disappointed. I think she is absolutely marvelous and I hope she makes a cd soon. She's been blessed with true talent and exotic beauty.......I think she's simply a shining star.

You continue to educate me. I am afraid I have a very limited musical knowledge. I had never heard of the Beau Brommels and I didn't know that Billy and Christy had a musical daughter. She is gorgeous and so is her music.

I believe the Beau Brummels were the first significant band to come out of San Francisco in the 60's, though clearly closer to the early British Invasion than the Dead, Airplane. They were also on an episode of the Flintstones, as the Beau Brummelstones...

After that comment, I was wondering if I'd actually made up the Beau Brummestones...but no! Here's a clip: http://www.clipser.com/watch_video/1306113
Personally, though, I'm an even bigger fan of the Way Outs:

I remember them well. Great music era, wasn't it?!

You never cease to amaze me :)
The level of sophistication and quality of your blog is something I aspire to reach.
May I be so bold to ask you how you put a video in your blog?
I have tried and failed so far :(

@La Belette Rouge- You weren't of the era to know of The Beau Brummels. Now you know! And I became aware of Alexa Ray Joel as an artist only this month. I saw a picture of her with her parents when she was a little girl, but haven't read anything about her since. Now we both know!

@YogaforCynics- Outstanding info! Thanks for the clip of the Beau Brummelstones, and the Way OUts, too. How in the heck could you remember such a thing? You must have been a big fan of The Flintstones. I loved them but couldn't recall a particular episode like you did. Also, that Clipser site looks interesting.

@Phivos- But what about bad memories?! I guess there's even something to learn from them, or from the way we responded to them...
But The Beau Brummels bring back only good memories; ah.

@Nancy- It sure was! Hey, fellow Reno Girl. I know you were a few years behind me, but did you ever go to The Door? Where was that teen nightclub....Center Street? Hadn't thought about that place, those nights for a long long time. :)

@Buddha- Wow, thank you for such a nice compliment! Your blog is wonderful, but if you decide to put a video there you usually can find the embed code at most video places to simply copy, then paste it directly into your "new post" text box. Many video sites have a button that says "Share" and when you push it you'll see Facebook, MySpace, a bunch of others, and usually Blogger (but not always). If Blogger is there then you select it and there will be directions to proceed. Beware that some sites post the video immediately as a new post. Most do not. But it's a good idea to check right away to see if it's been posted, then click edit to get it into your drafts where you can work on writing something about the video.
YouTube has "embed code" in the right top section of the screen, near information about the clip you're watching. It also has a "Share" button underneath the screen of the clip you are watching. I stopped using that route because it posted the clip at my blog instead of placing it in drafts. I just click the embed code, push the Cntrl and C keys together (to copy), open my new post text box at my blog, push the Cntrl and V keys together (to paste).
Now, as to placing your own home video at your blog, like I've done with my cat and the recent fair...it's been so easy. Just select the icon with the movie reel in your New Post box (it's the one next to the icon for still shots) and follow directions to browse your computer to find where you saved it and have it uploaded to Blogger. It takes a bit of time for it to upload, but once done it's right there in your text box.

The problem I am having is that the other night I was poking around in Settings and Layout and found (somewhere, but I can't remember where) that Blogger is offering a new and improved "New Post" text box. I selected to change to it. Fine and dandy. Except it doesn't have the icon with the movie reel, only the still shot icon. Right now I don't know how we are going to get movies saved in our own computers into Blogger. I'll have to go to the Help section to find out. If anyone reading this knows maybe they will leave an explanation.
BTW, Buddha, the help section at Blogger is sometimes really helpful with questions...other times, not so much.
(I hope your birthday was fantastic!)

THanks for these. The music reference fits for me with an activity I have taken up and that is go go dancing. There is a wonderful woman here where I live who has been organizing us as a group and we have a performance at a bar tomorrow with a band called the "Clams." Wish me luck!

I will probably post about it when it is over. I have not been posting in a while but want to get back to it.
