Old Postcard Wednesday--California Winterland

Lost
- by David Wagoner

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you,
If you leave it you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.

Breathtakingly beautiful!
The tiny flakes of snow that are dancing around in your blog - did you add those recently? Give a very cool wintry feeling :)

lydia, beautiful yet unsettling as i've just read about the blizzards across the country. you must be as cold in silverton as we are in portland where the rain has been less than what i'd expected.

stay warm!

That's a beautiful postcard! It's just what I needed now to forget the random rain/sleet mix outside. Give me regular snow any day of the week.

Love the postcard, that could be Colo. Springs today, we got 6 inches of snow :)

The poem, I just loved. I read and re read it. It spoke to the very depth of my soul. Thank you for sharing it :)

Beautiful California!

That's what it is looking like up here right now. Snowy, cold and crisp.

Greetings to you all. :) I hope you will understand a group reply, as our ISP server has been knocked out all day long - and I just heard the computer chime from another room at 11:15 p.m., indicating the service crews finally worked some magic in this cold snap we are having. Yes, Naomi, Silverton is feeling it like Portland. Don't wish for rain until it warms up or we'll be in for that nasty freezing rain.
The dogs have a grooming appointment 15 miles away tomorrow morning so (unless I change the time) we'll be on the roads in temps in the teens (cold for these parts).
Phoenix, you can get the snow effects widget Here!

I agree with all of you that the scene in this postcard was special - its exact locale can be in our dreams. :)

The photos look like they were taken in the Lake Tahoe area. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the U. S.

At first I though I was imagining things when I saw the snowflakes and had to watch it for a few seconds before determining that they were real. Very clever.

Is the poem an Indian one? The Native Americans understand nature in a way no white man can.

Loved this pic and poem so very much...Ironic, as I think you will love the new song video I just posted tonite...in relation to the loss of so many forest needed and for us to work towards a more "going green" for our planet.

Lydia, it was 10 degrees here two nights ago! We are expecting snow tonite and tomorrow and yes I have to go out in the freezing ice and snow tomorrow also. You two be careful tomorrow.

Hope your holidays are going well,

Love,

Rhi
