being phoney.

Middle age: When you're sitting at home on Saturday night and the telephone rings and you hope it isn't for you. ~Ogden Nash

If the Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me. ~song title by Jimmy Buffet

The telephone is a good way to talk to people without having to offer them a drink. ~Fran Lebowitz

Cell phones are the latest invention in rudeness. ~D.H. Mondfleur

Apparently we love our own cell phones but we hate everyone else's. ~Joe Bob Briggs

People are very protective of their cell phones, how it's used, whereit's used and how much it costs. It has become a very personal issue for a whole lot of people in this country. ~Steve Largent

My phone has been ringing off the hook. I have like 17 cell phones and pagers. ~Steven Cojocaru

As a matter of fact, when compression technology came along, we thought the future in 1996 was about voice. We got it wrong.  It is about voice, video, and data, and that is what we have today on these cell phones. ~Steve Buyer

I'd rather sit down and write a letter than call someone up. I hate the telephone. ~Henry Miller

hahahah!!. I love the "if the phone doesn't ring it's me" one.. :-D, that's got to be country song?

and the last one is spot on!
Personally I don't have a phone, I hate all of them, though I can see the advantages to having one sometimes, lol!

I'm not sure I like that passive aggessive "If the phone doesn't ring" thing. But I sure relate to the Ogden Nash quote.
I guess it's when you stop caring about being popular and want your peace and quiet.

the watercats- First, I am with you when it comes to hating phones. We have a landline that is always on answerphone. I only pick up when I hear the voice of someone I want to talk with. My sister is the same way. We have one of those pay-as-you-go cell phones to have if one of us is on the road for a length of time. It costs us more to keep it "filled" with minutes than we'd ever get out of it, I'm sure.
I'm not familiar with that particular Jimmy Buffet song, but he is known for his island-type songs, although I did hear he had switched to some country.

Hattie- Passive-aggressive! I wouldn't have thought of it that way, but you are probably correct. According to your definition it seems I stopped caring about being popular around the age of 28 or so!

Phivos- I like you kind of greeting right here in comments! I wish you a great day, a joyous one even. :)

lydia, like you i don't answer my home phone unless it's someone i want to talk to then and there.

these quotes are adorable to read. the last one--don't delay--says what needs to be said just right.

but....i have an Iphone. i have to tell you, lydia, i am in love with it. i get calls, i check my blog, i send emails, it has a calculator, a to do list, an address book, a microphone, a camera, google.... i could gush for longer.

it has simplified my life so much i don't misplace nearly what i used to!

that said, cell phone rudeness drives me wild! like, i am on vacation poolside and i'm listening to some guy talking to his office? hmmmpf! i just might interrupt him and ask him to move. right?

Ogden Nash, Fran Lebowitz, and Jim Croce all in one post? You amaze me again, Lydia...

kj- Ah, the iphone. There is no doubt in my mind that I would love the thing. If it just wasn't a phone! Being one who never says never . . . :)
Re: the poolside phone conversation, I bet asking someone to move or quiet down will evolve similarly to how smoking in public evolved as something that strangers felt comfortable and even entitled in asking a smoker to take his/her vice elsewhere.
(Of course, with smoking we are talking health risk and not so with overhearing another's conversation...)

Elizabeth- How nice of you to visit my blog! Especially on the day that one of your blogs was honored as a Blog of Note! That shows real class. (congrats again)

Erin- Strange bedfellows...or maybe my strange mind. Glad you went with the flow and thanks for your comment. :)
