Gimme Shelter...provide tents to earthquake survivors in Haiti

Today the message below accompanied my daily email click reminder from The Rainforest Site. A bit of info for those of you unfamiliar with this wonderful site:  Simply put: Your click counts! All you need to do is visit
The Rainforest Site daily to make your click and by the end of the year, you will have helped protect over 4,100 square feet of rainforest.

Please note the deadline of February 25. That is Thursday, dear friends! Haiti's rainy season is upon them, hence the importance of immediate action.
Provide Tents To Earthquake Survivors In Haiti--Free

The headlines and top stories in the news have moved on to other subjects, but we haven't forgotten about the situation--and the people--in Haiti as it starts the slow road to recovery.

As our friends at Partners In Health continue to provide vital medical care, they are also striving to give back to the people of Haiti a small piece of their humanity by supplying homeless families with temporary shelters, sleeping bags and sleeping pads. You can further these efforts when you shop in The Rainforest Site store: Every purchase you make today through Thursday, February 25th (11:59 p.m. PT) will help fund the purchase of a tent for a Haitian family in need. You can also make a direct donation to the cause by purchasing our Tents For Haiti Gift That Gives More™. 100% of your tax-deductible gift goes to Partners In Health.

Thank you for clicking and shopping to help the planet and all its inhabitants!

Gimme Shelter - lyrics

Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today.
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away.

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away.
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away.

Ooh, see the fire sweepin'
Our very street today.
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way.

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away.
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away.

The floods is threat'ning
My very life today.
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I'm gonna fade away.

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away
.

Thank you so much for this link! I wish I had known about it earlier. I do this every day for animal shelters and I am happy to do it for this very important cause.

Debby~ That's great of you to help! Yes, I click on the Animal Site and the Breast Cancer Site daily, along with The Rainforest Site. Have you ever shopped their online stores? What an interesting array of goods...and they make great gifts because it's like giving twice. :)

Hey Lydia - i thought about you straight away when i saw this advertised in the paper: it's a BBC play about Paul Robeson staring UK comedian/actor Lenny Henry as Robeson. Apparently he's very good (i hope to have a listen myself soon)

Hope the below link works outside of the UK xx

This is a great reminder, Lydia. This is about the time that people stop remembering about the suffering that is continuing in Haiti. Good to keep this alive so people continue to do their good work.

I am sending money monthly to Oxfam to contribute to Haitian relief. That way if I start forgetting the situation the money goes to them anyway.
I like Oxfam's approach, which is on the ground and uses and pays local people for clean up and relief efforts.

Riyadh~ So good to have a visit from you. I need to touch base with your blog, too. :)

Pixies~ You are so great to share the link for this marvelous Robeson program! I'm listening to it as I blog. I must say, it's really something that you would think of me in reference to Paul Robeson. I love him, and this play sounds wonderful so far!

Phivos~ Well, you are too!

Melinda~ I needed the reminder myself. I also like Hattie's idea below.

Hattie~ That's great that you have connected to Oxfam on a monthly schedule. From what you say I like their approach too. Another of my friends has made that group his charity funnel for Haiti. Seems I should take a closer look at Oxfam.

Thanks so much, Lydia. After earlier support, I'd wanted to find groups raising one thousand for Shelter Boxes for Haiti. And these tents seem another great idea. Good phone support from Rainforest site too.
Yes, we need to keep reminding our privileged selves that Haiti will need attention for many years.
