not lost, just not here

On Thursday afternoon I went hunting through my picture trunks (yes, I have two of them...plus assorted other cardboard boxes full of photos) in search of the shots I mentioned in my last post that I would post here at the end of the week. I was excited to see those shots of the private airplane tour over Mount St. Helens in September 1980 again. It has been a long time since I saw them, although the day is like a video in my mind. I had searched through one entire trunk-full of photos when it suddenly dawned on me that the shots taken that day by my then live-in boyfriend were slides! At first I panicked thinking they were lost, then I remembered where they are....in our storage unit, along with the carousel slide projector (hey, that was a state-of-the art gizmo a few decades ago).

Since the pictures are not lost but are in a state that will require the assistance of a photo shop to change them from slides to photos (I hope they can be transferred to a photo cd) I cannot at this time fulfill my promise to show them to you. I have in mind getting this project completed by September, when I will post them on the 30th anniversary of the day four people in a small plane very nearly crashed inside the crater of Mount St. Helens.........

I felt lost, just not all here, for most of what was a difficult week for me. Here is something that lightened things up and made me laugh. Our Sunday paper last week had a feature article about the University of Oregon's all-guy a cappella group, On the Rocks. The Statesman Journal article noted that:
The video someone shot of them three weeks ago at UO's Erb Memorial Union amphitheater, performing what has become their most popular routine, a mocking of pop star Lady Gaga's music video "Bad Romance," has been viewed more than 1.7 million times online. . .

That figure has now surpassed 3 million views, and counting. These guys are great!
[Note that I have also included the Lady Gaga video for comparison.]
I think On the Rocks just might get your weekend off to a good start.

I heard this yesterday in the car--it's good for a chuckle. May I present

Lydia, Those young men are a total kick! My husband is a fan of Lady Gaga - he saw one interview and decided she is truly an artist.

I share your frustration with photo archives. My goal is to organize over 3 decades of photos by the end of this year. If you have negatives, there's a scanner available which is very affordable, so that's on my list. Then there's all the videos that need to be put on dvds. It boggles the mind.

Hope you have a good weekend and a better week come Monday!

Love it!
There are times when I have done the very same thing looking for something and I feel the same way.

I think you will be able to turn them into pics. We have a bunch of slides also that need to be turned into pics.

Thanks for sharing, it was great!
take care :)

I've lived in Eugene for years, but only recently discovered OTR, then ran across their Lady GaGa routine the first day it hit YouTube, with just a handful of viewers. Of course I immediately reposted it to my FB page.
My unbridled joy in watching them was tempered by a certain sadness that the SAME group of guys will not remain together to bring us more joy for years to come. Such a lesson there...the cast of characters in our lives come and go, so we'd best enjoy the moments we have together!

Seems as if everyone is doing Lady Gaga sendups these days. Can her career survive?

What I would say about Lady Ga Ga would not be fit for this blog.

They guys are great, even though I can't hear it properly.

You can buy a scanner that has a slide slot and you can scan your own slides. I spent three months scanning all of my boxes of slides and then lost them all when my computer crashed. I don't have the heart to do it over.

Kittie~ You are right, and I hope they hear that comment a lot!

Distracted~ hmmmm...Junior Brown may not rock but can that guy wear a hat or what? And check out his wife's distinctive guitar playing. This def made me laugh. :)

Amy~ Weird...my husband also appreciates her since seeing an interview and determining she is indeed an artist!
After reading your comment about your own photo stash and project plans I think I might have to post about this issue over at my other blog, Clutterquake. :)

Looking to the Stars~ Well, I guess I certainly can...see Darlene's comment.
I am so glad you enjoyed the vid of the guys. :)

Bon'O~ I love your sensitive observation about the transitory nature of the group, and how it applies to our lives and those who cross our paths.
Eugene is a great city. :)

Hattie~ Who knows where that lady's career will end up. She certainly does have a strong voice (strange for such a gentile, shy little thing.......(!))

Darlene~ So nice being instructed on the latest technology by someone in their 80s! Does this make you a nerd? Does this mean I am "behinder" the times than you? Seriously, I appreciate the information and the sad results of your own time-consuming project are heartbreaking and another reminder that our computer must be backed up. We're playing with fire by not attending to that... :)

Robin~ So good to have a comment from you, as I knew you were taking a break from blogging and I really missed you. Haven't clicked on your link yet to see if it's locked down as private or not.
That damn stalker. What can be done/is being done about this situation? You should link up with other bloggers who have had the same problem...is there a group, I wonder?
You stay safe, artistic one.

Oooooooh the all male guy a cappella was quite impressive. They did a very good job..and funny and cute.

I loved Lady Gaga's song "Bad Romance" as I hear it on the radio a lot and it just seems for me to be one of those songs you can just start singing along too. But this is the first time I've seen her video...rather interesting.

Thanks for the smile and enjoyment of the music!

Things are moving along with my sister. I'm exhausted but she is learning a lot from me. And we are having pretty good luck very fast in relation to finding her housing. We will find out by mid week next week whether she gets this small (but very nice) studio apartment...talk about luck! Either that or my "Intuition" to county housing on the right day and right time (no people there in line nobody) and yes, things going along. However my body and mind are completely exhausted...driving her to all these places, our not bring able to stop until we followed it all through. More to do next week. But I have no regrets (so far) standing by her and stepping up to the plate in needed. Like you said Lydia nobody showed or explained to me I had to learn on my own and I really wouldn't want anyone I know to have to go through any of what I did on their own. So much education in the realm of "How to survive"...

Have a good and safe weekend..crazy weather hey?

Love,

Rhi

Rhi~ Funny thing is, I like the guys' video better than Gaga's...and I agree that the song is catchy.
Great news about the progression toward a sense of home for your sis, and a decent relationship between the two of you. It's admirable what you are doing.
Crazy weather, I guess. The news showed some brave souls camping on Mt. Hood & one said they had seen just about every kind of weather in this day alone.

Wonderful. And all of it news to me. I must try to get out more.

bfk~ Dear, you were in Switzerland when this video was released on youtube. Trade places?
