No tears for Onyx..... yet

Autumn Tears by Lucia Masciullo

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love.
~Washington Irving

I wish I was more eloquent in the language of tears than I am. One of our cats, Onyx, who is a favorite of my husband's, has inexplicably gone missing. I don't want to give power to my greatest fear so will not express it here at this time. He is one of the stray cats that adopted us and who sleep in the garage cozy in their beds. Onyx is a real homebody and he has never before been away all day and night in the years we've had him.

I wish I could cry myself to sleep now and wake up tomorrow with Michael telling me that Onyx is home.

Oh no. I hope that Onyx is home by the time I type this. There are few things more upsetting than a missing pet.

My dog Bosco likes to "help" me bring in the groceries, and so is allowed into the front yard to do that. He normally always sticks close to me--has done since puppyhood--but one time recently, when I was done bringing in groceries, I couldn't find him. It was a bad bad feeling. Turns out, he had just gone exploring a little and came right back. If he were ever gone for any length of time, I would be beside myself.

All my best wishes in finding Onyx, Lydia.

Onyx is a great name for a cat. I hope your feline wanders home safely very soon.
As it's the beginning of the month, were there any moving trucks in your neighborhood? Cats get curious and then get transported.

Oh, but I felt a pang. I'm a real kitty person, have had a special cat gone missing, and felt a certain panic inside. (She returned...was catnapped, ad on radio got her back.) Lots of positive thoughts your way that Onyx will return. Hugs!

When you have a chance, please drop by my place. I have a little something for you.

Oh, Lydia my heart goes out to you. I hope with all my heart he shows up. Please keep me posted, I so want him to come back home. I panic when I haven't seen one of my boys after 20 minutes. i go looking for them hoping that the foxes haven't gotten them.

Will be sending postive thoughts your way :)

Having been through something similar, recently, I have a fair idea what you're going through. I wish I could say something to make it easier, but I don't think the right words exist; all that helps is the knowledge that friends are thinking of you — and that's certainly true for you and Onyx.

Hey Everyone! Onyx returned home on Saturday late afternoon! See my next post for some photos. THANK YOU all for your great comments today - they helped so much.

Fireblossom~ Bosco, what a name! Sounds as if he and Onyx would both have a couple of stories to tell if only they could...

Frosty Duncan~ Yours combined with ours were of great help. Thank you.

Indigo~ I kept repeating your words to myself throughout the day. The force was very strong with them!

English Rider~ His name suits his black beauty. You touched upon a habit of Onyx...he likes to jump into the trunk when I am unloading groceries. So that was a concern. And who knows? Maybe he did go for an overnight ride.

Kittie Howard~ Your cat was actually catnapped! How lucky that the ad brought her back home!
I will come by a bit later to see what you have for me (thanks!).

Belette~ I think there is such power in the kind of concern you showed. I hope he will keep on the next collar/tag I place on him. Enough of this being unidentifiable in scary situations...

Looking to the Stars~ I sure understand the panic you spoke about. We were sick at heart and to our stomachs all morning when he still was not home.

pohanginapete~ I thought of you so many times in the long hours we waited for Onyx. Unlike your dear Ming, Onyx is not yet at the end of his days - so there was that hope. Your thoughts meant a lot.
