Movie lines I love:

One day she went away and didn't come back. She died or vanished somewhere, in one of the Labour Camps. A nameless number on a list that was afterwards mislaid.

-from one of the final scenes in Doctor Zhivago (1965), voice-over by Yevgraf Zhivago describing Lara

Today is totally a coincidence! Or, great minds thinking alike:>)
Hope this does not foretell a Zhivago-type winter for us.

"Dr Zhivago" and its theme music "Somewhere My Love" were their special movie and song for my father and the old flame he left my mother and I for. My reaction was as you might expect, and so I have never seen the movie. For a long time i would have rather done anything else but that.

Over many years, I have come to wonder how he and my mother ever got together in the first place. Everybody deserves a chance to be happy, and I quit being angry at some point. But I still don't think I want to go see "Dr. Zhivago."

Ahhh, I love that line also. It is so poetic. I had forgotten all about it till you shared it. Thanks! I love the old authors & how they weaved a story. It seemed the words came from their own soul :)

distracted by shiny objects~ That was a fun coincidence! A Siberian winter sounds like not much fun, but I would welcome some snow here (especially if I could have Julie Christie's hat!).

Fireblossom~ Wow. I thought about your comment throughout my day. I think that the song and movie are "special" to many couples through the decades since they were released, but your personal story cuts to the quick of reality. You must have been just a little girl when he left and no wonder you don't feel you could see the film. I honestly don't think you ever should. I also think you are quite marvelous for giving up the anger about your abandonment. So sorry that happened to you. xoxo

Looking to the Stars~ It is a line that just catches in my throat like a crying storm trapped there. I'm glad it was meaningful for you too.

kj~ Opposite from what I feel regarding Fireblossom seeing the movie, I think you should definitely rent the DVD (the original one; although the remake a few years ago was good it is not the classic. Make it a date night!

Darlene~ I am impressed you have read Dr. Zhivago. I have not. Last evening when I was online reading about it I found a site with portions from the book and thought I really should read it. :)

My parents took me to see this film when it first came out and I loved it! It is still one of those films that if you come across it on t.v. and you even see five minutes of it, you're hooked.

I'm so excited that you love movies. Me too! Seriously.

Makes me want to watch the film all over again. Thanks - it's one to add to the list.

Kat~ Seriously. I am so happy to share a love of movies with you!
My parents took my sis and me to see Dr. Zhivago also. They were not happily married (step-father) and would divorce five years later. In the meantime, my mother had the theme song to play and take her to places of dreams....

Anonymous~ Yes, me too. As Kat said above, you are hooked in the first moments if it comes on tv. Problem here is that it never comes on any of the channels I get. I have it on old VHS, but want the DVD.

Lydia - Make sure you get it in Widescreen!
