Movie lines I love:

Nobody's perfect. There was never a perfect person around. You just have half-angel and half-devil in you.
~~~
This farmer, he had a big spread and a lot of money. Whoever was sitting in the chair when he'd come around, why did they stand up and give it to him? Wasn't no harm in him. You'd give him a flower, he'd keep it forever. He was headed for the boneyard any minute. But he wasn't really goin' around squawkin' about it like some people. In one way, I felt sorry for him, 'cause he had nobody to stand out for him, be by his side, hold his hand when he needs attention or somethin'. That's touchin'.
~~~

I'm been thinkin' what to do with my future. I could be a mud doctor, checkin' out the earth underneath.

Heather had her transplant!Everyone had to arrive at Henry Ford at 5:30am on Monday since this involved two people. I had gotten up at 3:30 to shower and we left our house at 4:30. I didn't get back to my house until after midnight.
Robert's surgery was first and Heather's followed two hours later. They do it this way to minimize the time the liver is out of the body.
Robert's surgery lasted about 6 hours and Heather's about 10 hours. Robert's wife and good friend were with him. My husband and sister were with me. Everyone sat together in the waiting room. My husband spoke with Robert in the recovery area after his surgery. He was doing great, but tired and sore from the surgery.
Heather was taken straight to ICU where whe will stay for a few days. We finally were able to see her around 9:30 pm. She was alert and speaking and relieved the transplant was over. We stayed with her until we knew she was comfortable then headed home for a little sleep.
This morning (Tuesday) We will have breakfast then head back over to be with her.
The surgeon said Robert's section of liver was healthy and making bile in Heather, YIPPEE! She will be watched carefully in ICU for a few days then switched to a regular room. She will be released after a couple of weeks if everything goes well.
The doctors and nurses were amazed when they heard how we found Robert through my blog! The anesthesiologist said when they have to wait for a cadaver liver they often are in kidney failure and have major memory issues. We avoided Heather having to reach end stage liver failure before being transplanted by having a live donor. On average 35% died waiting for a liver then never comes due to organ shortage.
Robert and Kayren have become our lifelong friends and we are so very grateful for this gift of life! Take care and I will update my blog when I can, but wanted you to know this wonderful news.

I wrote a long comment then it disappeared when I tried to publish it!
In a nutshell YES, Heather had her transplant. Robert and Heather are doing well. Robert is in a regular room and Heather is in ICU. I finally got some sleep after being up almost 24 hours. We will be heading over to the hospital after we eat.
Robert's section of liver was large which was good for Heather. It is making bile for her YIPPEE. She was alert and talking when we finally got to see her in ICU. She was so brave going into surgery, she is one tough cookie.
The doctor's and nurses were amazed when the learned we found Robert through my blog.
Robert is an amazing man and I love him!

I love your choice of quotes, Lydia, and what a wonderful movie you've chosen! I first saw it many years ago at the Olmos Theater in San Antonio. (I saw many many great movies there and loved the place. One day it changed to a porn theater...there's something deeply wrong about that). It was double billed with an early Dustin Hoffman movie which I believe was called Straw Dogs, or Straw Man or something.

From the opening credits, with their spooky music and old sepia toned photographs, on through to the blazing end, this is simply one of the best movies I've seen.

That last picture takes my breath away. The sight of a house like that, on a wide flat space, always takes my breath away and instantly fills my head with stories. I'm telling you, I feel certain I was an Iowa farmgirl or something in a previous life, because I have always felt this way. Loved this post, my friend!

Hmmm...this is the second beautiful Days of Heaven reference I've seen in the past couple days.

I may just have to put that one on my Netflix queue...

I have been meaning to see this film for years! I do know Malick's, "The Thin Red Line" (which I love), but this one has escaped me for some reason.

It certainly is stunning to look at isn't it? The landscape makes me think of "There Will Be Blood" with the starkness of it.

Oh Cathy!~ Marvelous news about beautiful Heather and her amazing donor! As you can see your first long message did in fact come through and I am so glad because it contains such wonderful information. Thank you so much for sending a second message to cover for the first.....after the 24 hours you had I cannot believe your kindness in updating concerned "strangers" (who do not feel like strangers) about the surgeries.

So many care. So many hope. So many celebrate. What an absolutely inspiring story this is!

Lots of love. Lydia

Fireblossom~ It is one of my top favorite movies ever. I have it on VHS and after doing this post will def get it on widescreen DVD. Good news at Wikipedia: "In 2007, Days of Heaven was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
So you lived in Texas, eh? Explains some themes in your amazing poetry. :)

YogaforCynics~ If I said you should put it on the top of your list I do not think you would fault me for that suggestion after seeing the film!

Kat Mortensen~ Oh, you must see it. (And I must see The Thin Red Line!) I read that Terrence Malick "disappeared" from the business for 20 years after completing Days of Heaven...now I want to know where The Thin Red Line shows in his artistic time chart. :)

I never saw it. And now it is on the top of my Netflix cue. Thank you!! I too love the Thin Red Line. It is for sure my favorite war movie ever.

Belette Rouge~ How great! I am sure you will adore this treasure of a film. And I have Thin Red Line on my list for the video store. They keep reducing inventory...it is time for me to look into Netflix.
