Friday Flash 55 -- the sculptor and his art

They languish, eyes closed in voluptuous reverie, cold substantial flab pressed upon a cold hard slab—sealed in everlasting sisterhood. The sculptor smiles the smile of accomplishment. He will put them on display, with hopes of selling them. They dream of full red sails, sun-warmed, on a boat homeward bound, and hum a freedom song.

*I found this image of sculptor, Nnamdi Okonkwo, with his work in a sidebar ad on a friend's Facebook page.

NOTE AFTER PUBLICATION: I had a message from the sculptor, Nnamdi Okonkwo, that I wanted to share with you because there were comments wondering about the composition of the piece and huge interest in its future.

This is what Nnamdi Okonkwo wrote:

Wow, I only saw this now, and after visiting your blog I have to take my hat off to you! Thank you; I enjoyed reading all the comments! That piece in the photo is actually clay, just before it was cast in bronze. The bronze piece is installed at the corner of 120th street, & 5th Ave in Harlem, New York city.
Again, thanks!

 Thank You, Nnamdi!

I'll bet they dream. I'll bet they get up and walk around when he's not there. Great story, Lydia. Thank you!

Way to take a passing impression and make it a look inside someone's mind, someone's reality. Enjoyed it, Lydia.

That's pretty awesome. I love the bright red background and how joyous the artist is sitting so small alongside his dreaming muses. For as big as they are, the seem as if they could float away...

izzy~ Not sure what the composition of the sculpture is. But it sure does look like it would be a challenge to move.
I'm impressed that you want to sculpt, because I would not know where to start!

Brian~ Thank you.
It is a nice sculpture, and there are some I liked even more than this at his website.

ds~ And maybe they dance!
Thank you. :)

hedgewitch~ A "passing impression" is exactly what it originally was, too! Thanks for such a cool comment.

G-Man~ He is most definitely a creative talent, and a great spark for me this week.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.

Monkey Man~ Thank you. And I love your description of the sculptor.

The Orange Tree~ What a nice thing for you to tell me! Thanks.

Heaven~ Didn't he, though? Doing what he was born to do!
Happy weekend to you, too.

He looks somewhere between proud and content. Nice work! (both of you)

Brilliantly done, and the sculpture is amazing!

From the 0°F land of the Bear, they look like they've been out in the cold too long.

You tell a beautiful story about them, and the Master.

Busy now; we trying to keep Humans from becoming as solid as those sculpted women. Sleeping outside in this weather can do that to you.

Daydreamertoo~ Take a look at his website...he shows in some impressive galleries and his work is sought by collectors. :)

hope~ Yes, I agree that he does look as you describe. Content especially. There is the countenance of a happy man. :)

Deborah~ Thank you so much. Thanks, too, for stopping by here when you are in the midst of Nanowrimo (or however that spelled!).

Rob-bear~ Don't you think they kind of look like they are sunning themselves, though? I like to think that they are not uncomfortably cold. I do realize that those you are assisting in your town are uncomfortably cold and homeless and hungry and thankful for wonderful people like you. :)
