It really does speak of the times, doesn't it? Across the street from me a house has sat empty now for 8 years. Not only is the mailbox a shambles, the whole house is slowly crumbling. A realtor had a sign up for awhile, now even that has been pulled up from the weedy front yard. It is starting to look like a place ghosts live in. I get two kinds of mail: junk mail and bills. Soon mailboxes will disappear like the telephone booths of olden days. Too bad. I used to like getting hand-written letters.

Smiling at Spiders gone mild--at least not foreclosed and homeless spiders. That's an exceptionally crisp and clean looking web--I'd live there. Great pic and matching 55, and your comment about your ex-husband's... pipe, over at G's cracked me completely up.

Brian~ Thanks so much. Have a great weekend.

Morning AJ~ I appreciate your visit and comment.

izzy~ Thanks. And I'm trying to come up with a change in schedule that will give me more time to read others' 55s!

G-Man~ YOU are always such a treat! Thank you for your fun comment. I'll pass it along to Charlotte if I see her in the 'hood.

mythopolis~ It took me hours and hours to get back here to reply to comments, but I thought about yours a lot throughout the day. So sad what happened to that house across the street from you. Houses seem to have souls, of sorts, and they are definitely lost without people living in them. On Wednesday there was an auction for a house across the street and four houses down from ours. It has been so depressing seeing the woman and her adopted children (her sister's kids, actually) lose that house, and then for it to go on the auction block. I stood in the middle of the street and watched it happen, and after the deal was sealed and the "winner" was being congratulated I called out that I thought they should know who once lived there...and I told them, then I walked away. The people just stood and stared at me.

hedgewitch~ So you liked my comment over at G's! That's fun to know. Thank you for your comments about the photo and 55.

Fireblossom~ It's what aging spiders do...

Mama Zen~ I am thrilled you think that. Thank you for telling me.

For a couple of seconds there I thought I was looking at the bottom of your mailbox through broken glass. Then it clicked. Nice picture and beauteous spider webs.

Deborah~ Many thanks!!

susan~ An optical illusion that worked out right! It really did look as if the spider had worked all night/morning knowing the freezing fog was coming in the afternoon. I was quite taken by the webs also.

Fantastic photo -- and I like what you did with it. "Alternative uses possible if newspaper ceases printing" is a good contingency plan and SpidersGoneMild made me smile.

Loved it. Very enterprising Spiders. Actually loved everything this week, especially the haiku and the medieval song. All fun.

Jennifer~ I hope newspapers don't stop printing....it's possible we will see that in our lifetimes, though. Hope your weekend has been mellow. :)

bfk~ Means so much to hear from you and to know that you enjoyed what was here this week. I will never forget your special "mid evil" song.

Kathe~ Happy to have you here. Is this Willamette Valley weather getting you down this weekend? Yuk, too much fog down this way to think clearly! I hope you've avoided that, at least. :)
