FormForAll: TRIVERSEN • Hiking to Wildhorse Lake

Hiking to Wildhorse Lake

Traversing no trail
The mountain at first looks fair
Welcoming wayfaring wanderers.

Blue lake lapping below
Summons serious backpackers
Delights the daytrekker.

Wildhorse Lake loves loners
With hooves that help to hold
No trail while traversing.

Traversing no trail
Tiny rocks loosen
Falling fast once freed.

Trickling starling stream
Bubbles up from below
Making mossy music.

Hours to sandy shore
After traversing no trail
One wordless with wonder.

Created for dVerse Poets Pub FormForAll, where Gay Reiser Cannon's prompt is TRIVERSEN—And An Attempt to Define The "Modern" ..... I must admit that I am not sure if I got the "variable foot" with appropriate one-to-four beats per line correctly, but it was a great exercise nevertheless.

Lydia, I think you wrote it perfectly. It has such a lilt and natural flow. Your use of assimilation and repetition throughout added to the melody. I found it most enchanting and lovely. Thank you!

sounds like a pretty wild place to visit...those journeys that take a bit can be the most rewarding though...i think you worked the form well...and i captured a bit of its imagery...smiles.

How I would love to hike and traverse the trail and then go to the sandy shore ~ Nice poetry form ~

"one wordless with wonder."
I like that a lot.

Oh, very nicely written. You have the rare gift of painting with phrases.

That one line repeating really adds to the feeling of dreamscape this mountain trail through the country of the mind evokes. Liked it much, Lydia.

Wildhorse Lake...the name, itself, is enticing...

Beachanny~ Thank you so much for the encouraging words. Much appreciated.

Brian~ What a place it is...a tough hike but so worth it.

Heaven~ It really is a nice poetry form. I like Wildhorse Lake even more, however!

rosaria~ Thank you for your appreciation of the phrase.

susan~ You are too kind. But I love it!

hedgewitch~ Thanks. The repeating line was the only thing I was satisfied with here actually. :)

YogaforCynics~ True that is. The Keiger Mustangs roaming wild in the area are now actually some miles away. People told me they saw Mountain Goats up in the area near Wildhorse Lake and I really wanted to see one, but didn't.

I could hear "the tiny rocks loosen"
and feel the precariousness of that!
thanks :)

It captures the mood of such a place, such a time...

izzy~ Those rocks remain one of my strongest memories of the hike that day. :)

mythopolis~ Many thanks. And forgive me for not getting around lately. :(

Your rhythmic lines remind me of my journeys to the mountains. I may never have mentioned that my home town (Chittagong) is a hilly place. We have hills even in the metropolitan area. But bigger mountains are outside the city. "Bandarban" for an example. I had a great trip to Bandarban in the new years eve of 2010. I have written about it in my blog, you may recollect. Love you, Aunt! Miss you!

Riyadh~ Chittagong sounds so beautiful, and has made you a fellow mountain-lover. I will look at it in Google Earth. I do recall that post, but must refresh my memory.
Love and miss you too!
