Friday Flash 55 — The Empty Chair

Old Clint talked to a blank chair
while sporting the wildest of hair.
We were all left to wonder
if this from-the-right blunder
was dreamed up by the candidate pair.

Now that convention in Tampa
sure had the conservative stampa.
The Dems go to Charlotte;
their color’s not scarlet.
They’re from that brightest blue campa.

Written for Friday Flash 55 - My post in exactly 55 words - for the G-Man.

I read a review of this and it sounded inadvertently hilarious. Maybe instead of debates they can provide Clint with two empty chairs.

Okay, maybe not. Nice 55.

We caught just a few minutes of Mr. Eastwood's speech on the radio, but that was confusing enough.

It makes me feel pretty sad for him, actually. Poor guy's getting older.

Love the rhymes, Lydia--they made me laugh as much as poor Clint, dazed and confused, with his chair and his rant. I have to admit I've always liked his movies, but it certainly seemed like "Get off my lawn dammit!" was probably the mildest thing he had to say.

I cannot imagine him from a cowboy to the President of the United States but he is a great director, that counts right? Awesome 55!
Mine is here
Have you a ROCKING AND BLESSED WEEKEND!!!

Seems to me that the limerick set the right tone for the whole piece. I always think that limericks are lite-hearted and fun-loving. Good for a spoof, or something like it.

I'm finding this year's politics have gone from insulting to boring. I glad I don't have to vote. But I worry about what ideas from the RNC might be adopted up here in Canada.

I felt saddened to see Eastwood appearing to stumble in his mind and expression. He is so legendary. I thought the Repub. convention was truly extraordinary in that their platform came down to :
1. Let's get rid of the incumbent
2. Trust me.

I saw this. Surreal! I love your humerous way of dealing with it. Full marks. This must be why the Limerick was born!

susan~ It must be strange for you in some ways to be there in Canada and only having to pick up on portions of the race down here. Gonna get interesting from here on to the election...

G-Man~ Yes, it was bizarre. I wish they hadn't asked him to speak, or I wish he hadn't accepted the invitation, or I wish I had not seen it!

Amber Lee~ Hearing it on the radio must have been a real trip! It was sad and I'm sorry I have this memory of him.

Brian~ Oh, I had not even thought about that. Makes me hopeful it was that and not the alternative!

hedgewitch~ Thank you. Since we both liked his movies I think we should just remember him that way. Actually, I could never forget how hot I thought he was when I saw him in TGTB&TU. :)

Shakira~ I don't think there are many who could imagine him as President! And you are right: he is a great director.

Rob-bear~ The limerick seemed right to me, as it softened the icky feelings I had while watching him on stage.

mythopolis~ You said it so beautifully and I thank you for this:
