Friday Flash 55 — Felix & Puff

Dragon flying over beautiful clouds with tongue by Stephanie Roeser
Dragon flying over beautiful clouds with tongue by Stephanie Roeser

When Felix was five he sketched himself parachuting, while singing
"Puff the Magic Dragon." He believed Puff was not dead in a cave,
but flying high where he wanted to go someday.

Felix forgot about Puff when he grew up but Puff remembered. Gliding
over New Mexico, Puff waited for Felix to make supersonic history.

Written for Friday Flash 55 - My post in exactly 55 words - for the G-Man.

This is the picture proving that even from the age of five, Felix Baumgartner, the world's first supersonic skydiver, dreamed of reaching for the skies.  [Source: The Telegraph-science]

My favourite dragon, i would have to say, would be the one that lived in the furnace of Ivor The Engine (a made-on-the-cheap and yet classic children's animation of yesteryear)

Or possibly the soup dragon from The Clangers (crochet mice living on the moon...)

As to Felix i'm sure there are those who will question why you would do such a thing (and i have to say - there's no way i'd want to) - but i guess that we, as a species, need people like him to come along from time to time and challenge what we accept as possible

ha...we should all keep those dreams alive like puff...and flying...but dang that was one big step there....but i loved watching every minute of it....

I can imagine Puff flying a lot more easily than me ever doing what Felix did, believe me. There has to be some sort of DNA factor that enables people to even think of such things. I'm uncomfortable standing on the fourth rung of a ladder. ;-) Loved your death defying 55, Lydia. And thanks for stopping by my place.

Pixies~ Good point about Felix, and as for your favorite dragon....well, anyone who has a "favorite dragon" is a fanciful human being, most definitely!

Brian~ I wonder what it has inspired in kids. Just a super guy, that's for sure.

hedgewitch~ Yup, that particular DNA factor skipped me, but not the kind that loves and admires someone like Felix.

izzy~ Glad you had fun. :)

G-Man~ No, Felix is from Austria! I guess if you grow up looking at the Alps you have a different sense of height. :) Thanks for your comments.

Teresa~ Thanks!

Margaret~ Isn't that drawing something? I was thrilled to see it (but the part about his singing "Puff" is pure fiction, as you probably guessed).

Melissa~ Wasn't it amazing that he landed on his feet?! I have had cats that don't do as well jumping from a table, and well you know the old wives' tale there!

Other Mary~ Thank you. I really loved the graphic; quite magical!

PattiKen~ Thanks much, Patti!
