Poetics — These boots

These boots have not taken me anywhere.
Yet.

I do dream of the places we could tread
together, but I must of course first
get

them. Then we'll go to Romania, Scotland,
Vienna, and Paris -- places I have not seen
yet.

We'll walk the streets of New York
again, and tip a street vendor who
has knitted the perfect scarf and
see what's on exhibit at the marvelous
Met.

We'll visit my hometown, kick up
our heels in the old stomping grounds,
pose for pictures from my knees-down
in the sweet old schoolyard where
my first love and I long ago
met.

Sometimes we will just stay close to
home and eat at Los Girasoles, have
a delicious traditional Chavindeca
served by the daughter of the cook--
A family pulling together, making the
American dream from their tears and
sweat.

I think these are the loveliest boots
and wonder where we might wander.
Will I make such a splurge to have
them, and if I do will my dreams
come true? I am not sure. What's your
bet?

Not being a betting Bear,
I'll not place a bet.
But I do believe
in dreams
in possibilities
in hopes.

Can these boots do
everything you want them to?

Or could an ordinary pair of shoes
be just as effective?

Blessings an Bear hugs!

Well? I'd have to say that if I stuck my feet in those boots, I probably wouldn't make it to the end of the street before I'd be crying. So if you have the feet for them - Do it.

Boots are meant for walking but these are too good for that. Love the special one word ( bet,met etc) ending at each stanza. Wonderful write Lydia!

I love the boots and wish I had the energy to walk the miles and visit the places. Sheer bliss. Blessings from Freda at Dalamory www.freda.org.uk

Rob-bear~ Good point. As long as the shoes were comfortable, a priority really if you want to travel far, then it really wouldn't matter which ones you wore. I just bet these particular boots would love to travel, however. :)

Brian~ I'm glad you see the beauty and promise in these boots the way I do. :)

Midlife Roadtripper~ (Your name is perfect for this topic, right?!) Believe me, I do not have the feet for bad shoes/boots. Most kill me, as a result of years of wearing ridiculous heels. But the description of these boots sounded promising. No matter how I admire them, I would never buy them if they didn't feel totally comfortable in the store (consequently, I would never purchase them online!).

kaykuala~ Thank you, Hank! I agree, these boots deserve to not be worn in a frenzy of walking. Some nice travel exploration would be perfect. :)

billgncs~ Loved your rhyming comment and the truth to it.

Mystic Mom~ I appreciate your comment. Many thanks. I tried to get to your blog by clicking on your name in comments, but am not allowed to view. Will try accessing via the Pub.

Whats the story in Dalamoyre~ Aren't they great boots, Freda?! I remember a post at your blog some years ago now that was about your favorite coat vendor in the U.K. I bookmarked it then but it has probably been cleared out by now. The coats were the best I've ever seen, and one would look so fine with these boots. Do not remember the name of the merchant.

Very cool boots in their own right and a very charming poem. Thanks. K.

Terrific that you chose to take a forward-looking view in your poem. Like you, I'm not big on shoes. Comfort is key. But the possibilities are endless and it's the comfortable ones that take up places, isn't it?

ohhh I have boot lust! Aren't they lovely- just waiting for you!
Cheers!

MKArt~ Hello there, my friend! How fun to have you visit and leave such a fun comment. Most definitely, walking the streets of New York again is high on my list. ♥

Manicddaily~ I have also so wondered about your blogging name, that double-d, etc. :) Thanks for the visit.

Victoria~ Thanks for your kind comments. Your poem about shoes is so outstanding, mine just humble in its midst...

Kathe W~ Hey, I wish you still lived in Portland and we would go to The Shoe Mill and each get a pair. It comes in brown too, but who could resist this shade of red? :)

Well, this poem hedges all bets, don't you think? What a hike ... it takes some killer boots to get there, or, of, course, the imagination of what life might be like walking back and far with them. The peramble is a rich and inlaid as the boots themselves. Maybe so much so that actually owning them might be a letdown. The poem already has put in all the miles. - Brendan

Try some Zen Navigation - follow someone who looks like they know where they are going - you may not end up where you intended to, but it will be somewhere interesting (don't follow them into their house mind)

Mind you i'm not sure that its boots we need to take us places - Jules verne never once left france, but...

(sings): These boots were made for walking...

You don't need the boots -- your thoughts will get you to where you want to go -- I like the idea of the playground with your first love as that is where my first love and I first met. wonderful words -- barbara

One rainy day not long ago I slipped on my favorite old pair of Ariat clogs before heading to the grocery store. On the way there and back I flailed to keep my balance three times. Having arrived home with all my bones intact, the clogs made a last short trip to the garbage. I have a new pair of boots that I hope will keep me upright through winter snow and ice.

The boots you love are very pretty. I hope you go far in them and always land on your feet.
