What cool friends (I hope you see them before...you know, and get to sleep in the closet-library.) I will look forward to wandering inside Powell's with you. In this post I wrote about the book launch my friend had at Powell's when her first book was published.Lydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11135393270656573516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4039445774186145767.post-30637214616850149382012-02-02T17:14:51.871-08:002012-02-02T17:14:51.871-08:00My friends (and mentors) in Portland are in their ...My friends (and mentors) in Portland are in their eighties now, and I worry that my next trip there one day may be for a funeral. But, it would be cool to wander around Powell's with you! When I stay with my friends there, I sleep on a cot in their walk-in closet that is wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelves of books! I lay on the cot and flip through books, and when sleepy turn out the light and the air smells like all those old books!!!mythopolishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03164758700393086005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4039445774186145767.post-33231745515138082442012-02-02T14:14:54.135-08:002012-02-02T14:14:54.135-08:00mythopolis~ I will keep a positive thought for tha...mythopolis~ I will keep a positive thought for that outcome! :)Lydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11135393270656573516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4039445774186145767.post-84857249620431800222012-02-02T05:58:52.846-08:002012-02-02T05:58:52.846-08:00That would be so much fun, Lydia! That would be so much fun, Lydia!mythopolishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03164758700393086005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4039445774186145767.post-39943668779305009272012-02-02T03:40:19.487-08:002012-02-02T03:40:19.487-08:00Deborah~ Aw, thank you so much. My mom always referred to her younger sister as "my kid sister" so the origins must be from a similar place. Your trip sounds just wonderful.

mythopolis~ Yes, Powell's World of Books! I adore that store. And I, too, love Portland. Perhaps one time when you come to visit I can meet you downtown for a cup of coffee! (I will tell you about hiking Mount St. Helens while we sip.)

bookmanie~ Oh, I hope you can come to the Pacific Northwest sometime to visit.
I am always so delighted to have a visit and comment from you. :)

susan~ See? You are not alone! I have only seen Multnomah Falls from the highway driving by. So it is on my list. But I always wondered how the heck did people ever find Vista House and Crown Point. It was good to select this postcard to research a bit and learn what I did. I'll def let you know when we make the trip and will report my impressions.

Now, about Rte 1. Heaven on Earth, I think. One of my best memories (I took that trip while in college and went all the way down through Baja). Did you, by any chance, dine at Nepenthe near Big Sur? yummy food and view.Lydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11135393270656573516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4039445774186145767.post-90649134585405909832012-02-01T17:56:03.186-08:002012-02-01T17:56:03.186-08:00That's a very interesting story about the desi...That's a very interesting story about the design and building of the Old Columbia River Hwy. Would you believe I managed to live in Portland for more than 17 years and never did see Multnomah Falls up close? I would definitely have gone had I known about the walking trails and the old portions of the highway but I thought it was a turnoff spot along that wild and crazy high speed drive and wasn't inclined to go that way unless absolutely necessary. The new road has magnificent views of the Columbia though but the winds can be so strong you need both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at most times.

We did get to drive along Rte 1 from OR through CA though. It's a bit of a nail biter but also incredibly beautiful.

Thanks for the good memories.susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16747450215034568033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4039445774186145767.post-53529496864262907772012-02-01T11:29:10.714-08:002012-02-01T11:29:10.714-08:00Hi my friend,
