The setting is about eight miles out of Silverton on the country road into Salem. At the intersection on one corner is an evangelical church that does not factor in the outdoor autumn decorating extravaganza. But on the other three corners and also a bit up one of the roadways these great scarecrows recently appeared.
I made a special drive last Saturday to get these shots because rain is expected at the end of this week....... a sad weather prediction for a glorious scarecrow here for only a flash of time and just looking for a little love and admiration.

It's always a delight to see art in surprising settings. These are wonderful scarecrows and I'm glad you took the time to get good photos before they disappeared in wind and rain.

ReplyDeleteLove these. When my daughter was little we used to visit a pumpkin farm that used to set the pumpkins up in fairytale scenes, Hanzel and Gretal, The Three Little Pigs, Rapunzel, etc. You could spend an hour or better just taking in the different scenes. (Hugs)Indigo

susan~ Interesting you would mention "wind" because the weather report tonight mentions that as being in the mix of this weekend's stormy days. Poor scarecrows!
Snowbrush~ Yeah, the Mary Poppins one is actually in a grassy triangle that has sheep in it sometimes. And the field is barren right now. But the kingly one is definitely protecting a small vineyard. And they are all cute, I agree. (Thank you for following my blog!)
Indigo~ How enchanting that must have been to see fairytale scenes full of pumpkin characters. Great idea...and I can tell great memories, too. :)
There is an annual scarecrow competition in our village in Scotland. Always a great range of scarecrow disguises!

ReplyDeleteRachel Fox~ I love the word "village"! Madamebutterfly used it in her comments, too. The competition sounds wonderful. It doesn't happen around here and I wish it would. These scarecrows are labors of love and could win a ribbon or two!
ReplyDeleteBrian Miller~ Oh, I think he is a very good king and a big fan of Willamette Valley Fruit Co. I am inclined to believe (they sell marvelous frozen pies). The mexican on the tractor is stupendous and a real surprise as a bonus scarecrow down the road a piece from the group (he really is outstanding in his field).

ReplyDeleteearlier in the summer i drove through a small village outside Stratford-upon-Avon and they had put up a couple of figures in odd locations - like a model of a woman cleaning a step and another of a showjumper taking a horse over someone's fence - sadly i wasn't able to stop and take pictures: but these are great fun also

Quite a collection of pumpkinheads ! Love the Baum quote... still have all of the Oz books that he wrote on my shelves, and wish I had early editions with color plates of the entire collection, both his and Ruth Plumly Thompson's continuation of the series. The books were lovely to behold...
