Friday Flash 55 — Amado

Maybe a little grace will pass my lips by Paul Armstrong
Maybe a little grace will pass my lips by Paul Armstrong

Around the time Amado learned to spell his Latin name (meaning “loving deity”),
his capacity to love anything was shed along with remaining baby fat.

Now he collected some desired temptations, including booze from his parents’
collection. Like Proust, he padded his walls and windows for isolation and, in his
case, to cushion the blow.

Written for Friday Flash 55 - My post in exactly 55 words - for the G-Man.

  4. I love this, Lydia, the injection of Proust, the line:
"his capacity to love anything was shed along with remaining baby fat"

Nice 55, definitely telling a story.

  6. Too often the case, succinctly stated here Lydia with your usual non-judgemental empathy *and* accuracy, that people lose their way and spend years finding it while they hide from the blows that aren't so much cushioned as amplified or maybe replaced by the self inflicted ones. A sad, very well written piece, amazingly sharp and clear in 55 words.

  7. Having lost
    his ability to love,
    Amado tried to fill
    is life with other things.
    But his room was built
    to cushion the blow
    of too much "reality"
    in his
    life.
