Sobriety: 27 years

The Playful Existence by Brihte, via Imagekind

Ich komme aus meinen Schwingen heim by Rainier Maria Rilke

I come home from the soaring in which I lost myself.
I was song, and the refrain which is God
is still roaring in my ears.

Now I am still
and plain:
no more words.

To the others I was like a wind:
I made them shake.
I’d gone very far, as far as the angels,
and high, where light thins into nothing.

But deep in the darkness is God.

-from Rilke's Book of Hours – Love Poems to God

As I have since this blog's inception, on the day of my sobriety anniversary I publish this treasured Rilke poem, but with a new image each year.

  4. Congratulations on such a huge milestone. My son is two years sober now, and frankly, given where he once was, I think it is amazing.

  5. I love Rilke. I have "Letters to a Young Poet #4" on the wall to my left as I sit here. ...Be patient to all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves...
I love the image you chose. Kinetic energy, soaring, yet supported by structure.
I look forward to next year's continuation. Power to you.

BEGINNING IN 2014 I will reply to only occasional comments here, while appreciating every visit and all comments! My reason is to enable me to utilize that time to read and comment on your blog posts instead! If/when I get more organized I may later return to replying to comments here, but one of my New Years resolutions is to spend more time at your sites: reading, enjoying, learning! Thank you for understanding.
