FormForAll — pigeons

Pigeon by R G
Pigeon by R G

it's raining, you're heard
hungry coos
'neath laurel bushes

silent the grass path
pungent earth
birds and life coo love

legs criss-crossed in shorts
coy lunches
birds peck through plastic

chimes stir work people
paper scraps
left on bare benches

mottled beige bird coos
stands alone
pecks my popcorn hand

Written for dVerse Poets Pub FormForAll, where Samuel Peralta's prompt is La Lune .....concerning the American Haiku variation on haiku invented by Robert Kelly, and varied again by Jack Collom. I reworked (to fit the 5-3-5 syllabic Kelly lune) a grouping of haiku that I wrote ages ago and whimsically named "Hi Coo." Visit the link to learn about the form and to read lunes written by others at the pub.

  1. Lydia, I love this! Each haiku/lune stands alone, and also works with the others for a perfect vision. Thank you--and Happy New Year!

  2. Interesting interpretation of the lune, and a well-wrought progression, illuminate these snapshots from an afternoon interlude with birds.

  7. I do enjoy the sound of birds perched on branches, but when they get too close to my picnicking legs...

a nice emsamble of lunes. though each works well on its own, I like them intertwined here; it paints a broader picture.
