Driving TFE's Poetry Bus this week is birthday girl Jeanne Iris, author of Revolutionary Revelry blog. Jeanne gave three "Mid-Summer Magic" prompts for us to choose from. I selected Option #1, which was the photo below and this question: What magic do you see in this photo?
She of once and never and stone
knelt then and ever on a lonely spot
of nothing wild and nothing mild,
a nothing patch in a nowhere place -
dreamed of color, touch, and grace -
when upon the space came a child
whose hand was warm and aura hot,
who found no life and shared her own.

The Who are a really odd group. I mean yes, Magic Bus is a great track, as is Won't Get Fooled Again and My Generation (i'll even allow you "Who Are You" as a good one)
ReplyDeleteBut my memory of the 70s is lots of "mods" - ie teenagers in long coats riding Vespa motorbikes with The Who written on the back - this memory is rather tainted by the really, and i mean really, odd lyrics to "substitute" and the voyage to Trip-out City that is the film "Tommy" - exactly how "hard" (ie tough) were those guys on their vespas looking back at those lyrics???

Really lovely. I especially enjoyed your illuminating the magic of the *life* of the child, the warmth of her touch. Beautiful.

I wonder how many people are like me and actually have to think of the spelling of "rhythm" as they write it.....for me it's possibly the trickiest word in the English language!

This is the sort of thing that was popular in the uk in the 70s
