Friday Flash 55 -- long haul

Fall by Josh McKible

 "You’ve driven so far!"

"Yup, through the last days of summer — long haul over the plains."

"Thanks for bringing my stuff, for unloading everything in my dorm room. How about a tour of campus?"

"Nah…too scruffy. I don’t fit here. Gimme a hug — go start your new life."

"Wait, Dad! I wanted to show you-u-u-u-u…….."

  3. It is sad when family take a "pass" on risky feelings-it really is
making for regrets. Good piece lady!

  4. reminds me of the Paul Simon lyric

    And I know a fa-ther
    Who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons
    For the things he'd done
    He came a long way
    Just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and headed home again

Guess we're all just slip sliding away? :)

Thats too bad, I was delighted to take my daughter to college for that very first time. You don't get a second chance.

  6. I thought it was supposed to be the kids who were embarrassed to be seen with their family.

Hey, that truck looks just like mine!

  8. Hello, all. I replied to all comments through Alice's and now I see that something went wrong, that they were never published.....

Brian~ Two different worlds indeed. Thank you for being here.

Margaret~ I think it is sad for both of them. :(

izzy~ "it really is making for regrets" is such a great line. Thank you.

Pixies~ Love that song and appreciate the analogy. The thought of slip slidin' away is depressing to me, but we gotta go sometime. :(

G-Man~ You rock! I think it's wonderful that you have that shared memory with your daughter. Great dad. :)

Monkey Man~ Never lesser than, most definitely. Thanks.

Alice Audrey~ I don't think he was embarrassed to be seen with her, but was afraid of causing her embarrassment being seen with him. I am reminded of my mother in this regard....

    susan~ Thanks for those words.
