Mag 86 -- The Shortest Day

The Shortest Day

The gathering begins shortly but
please, before you go, brief me
on today's news, for the print
is too big for me to decipher.
Tell not the protracted version of
every little thing happening on our
shrinking planet — just your
short-and-sweet take on what
amused and what enthused you
on this shortest day of the year—
this December day
of festivals and rituals, this
Midwinter marker for forgiving
our shortcomings and
forevering our
longing.

  6. I like how the so many of the words draw on the stature of the king for inspiration without mentioning him once. It's as if you wrote the poem first, then found the perfect picture to accompany it.

My Magpie 86 entry is Cepheus.
