The Princess' Poem to her Secret Love. The prompt is for us to write a Sedoka, and Sam begins his beautiful post with these lines (please click link to read more):
As a poetic form, the sedoka is one of the rarest forms today, not often seen even within its native Japan..
And yet, some scholars have contended that one of the greatest poems of the Japanese language is a sedoka – a poem composed as a declaration of love by the Princess Nukata.
Such an intense and personal poem... Ah, but this is a poem that begs for more, that insinuates a story that is to be continued! Perhaps this is the start of a series based on the sedoka?

ReplyDeleteit has to be said that its a very specific type of poem, so i can sort of understand why its not generally used.
ReplyDeleteI think it was on TED that i heard that the Greeks used to believe that a muse was a friendly spirit that lived in an area and would whisper in the ears of anyone who would listen - they would call this a Djinn, or a Genie - and eventually just a genius
