Sleeping, seeking a gauzy center
sensitive and serene
for unseeing eyes shut under lids.

Drowsing, disappearing into denseness
after long days that became
decades of holding to the dream.

Dreaming, entering darkness delayed
by undetermined dawn
somehow determined by destiny.

Passing, pausing no longer here
in prisons or parades, trading
his peoples' praise for Peace.

    it is a sad day for his services will be missed---what he did for his people---but a well deserved rest might finally be here as well

    Thank you for this poem. As a South African, it resonates so deeply with what I have been feeling this whole week. It heartens me to read your words written with compassion for an old man who is passing, while acknowledging his contribution to the world.
