By the time they got to Woodstock they were half a million strong...
And I was there in spirit while camping in the Mt. Rose Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada range with my boyfriend at the time and two dark brown horses.
On June 2, 2008, a museum opened that is bound to interest those of us who wished to be there at Woodstock, those who were too young or not even born yet, and most definitely those who were there. The Museum at Bethel Woods, an homage to the Woodstock Festival, is described in exciting detail in this article: Our Towns - Back to the Garden - A Woodstock Museum - NYTimes.com. I would so love to go next year for the 40th anniversary of the historic festival.

Well, I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, Tell where are you going?
This he told me
Said, I'm going down to Yasgur's Farm,
Gonna join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land and set my soul free.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
Well, then can I roam beside you?
I have come to lose the smog,
And I feel myself a cog in somethin' turning.
And maybe it's the time of year,
Yes and maybe it's the time of man.
And I don't know who I am,
But life is for learning.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
By the time we got to Woodstock,
We were half a million strong
And everywhere was a song and a celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky,
Turning into butterflies
Above our nation.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are caught in the devils bargain,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

I didn't go to Woodstock either and not sure I would have even if I could have...I'm not into crowds! By the way, that could be me in that photo, almost exactly, braids and all. :)
You were at Woodstock! Wow! Lucky one :-) Cute picture. Doesn't only look like mibsy, like me too ;-)
I bought the record as soon as it was available.
Beautiful lyrics, thanks!
Mibsy and Francessa,
It simply warms my heart thinking of you two in your braids, and I enjoyed your comments so much.
Francessa, you became excited and thought I was at Woodstock. I only wanted to be there! I clicked on your Amazon link and it was fun to see an international version. The picture on the CD is iconic.
Ups, Lydia, sorry! But it's the spirit that counts, isn't it? ;-) We sure would have met there!
