lovely building. One of the things i like about cycling is when you take a new road and find some funny looking building - like near my house there's a building that looks like it's owned by a James Bond Villain. If i passed this i would have to stop and look again.

I love the architecture of this building - you can almost imagine Escher like steps running inside.

Besides the awfulness of this tragedy, I am saddened by price public office exacts on those willing to take on the burden.

Yes, my hope is that Biden will be the one selected by Obama. Of the three we hear about, he has the most depth and is pro-choice.

Wonderful old building. I like the small churches.

Beautiful old photo--does the caption really mean that there were no doors except through the belfry?

This shooting of course comes so soon after the Unitarian church shooting in Tennessee. No doubt, Ann Coulter and her ilk will continue to make "jokes" about how liberals and Democrats deserve to be killed....

DFTP,
Wow...Escher like steps. Yes, I can imagine that too. I wish it was safer to cycle around where I live. Your area and scenery sounds wonderful.

Naomi,
Good point about the price they pay. I watched our small town planning commission meeting last night on TV and was struck how one woman was shamed for being "new" when she mentioned concern for how we citizens would view the action they were taking (the end result of which, by the way, appears to put us one step closer to having a cement factory one mile from our house and next door to a middle school - probably will blog about this later).

RL1963Lisa,
I'm with you kiddo. Those megachurches not only turn me off, they downright infuriate me for some visceral reason.

Yogaforcynics,
Here's a portion of the info: "It was mentioned in Ripley's "Believe It or Not" column because the church is entered through the bell tower. The walk from the bell tower has the 14 Stations of the Cross in Italian marble along the right hand side. The chapel was designed with St. Sophia's Church in Istanbul, Turkey in mind."
The other shooting you mentioned was horrid. What a nightmare. Nightmare describes Ann Coulter as well.
