Old Postcard Wednesday--Snowy Range, Trinidad, Colorado

[There is no description on the back of this postcard. It has a circular Fred Harvey stamp at top left, so must have been sold in his resort.]

I posted another postcard featuring Fisher's Peak and Trinidad, Colorado, in July 2008.

Trinidad looks pretty much like any small town. Home to about 10,000 people, it's tucked in the Rocky Mountains of southern Colorado.

It's the kind of place where the day's highlight might be a game of hoops, or perhaps a loaf of freshly baked bread.

Once a stop along the old Santa Fe Trail, Trinidad's always been on the frontier.

Mayor Joe Reorda says it's a "live and let live" kind of place..........

Pioneers Of Sex-Change Surgery

Seth Doane travels to Trinidad, Colorado, where the first private practice for gender reassignment surgery, more commonly called "sex-changes," was begun over forty years ago.

This
is what I think of when I think of Colorado.......

The only thing i know about Trinidad is that they always (or at least always used to) enter the world cup Football twinned with Tobago - is this the same Trinidad? I always pictured it as a Jamacan island or something

Interesting claim to fame!

Then there are the lyrics "I'm in Colorado, when I'm not in some hotel".

"Trinidad and Tobago" is a nation at the southern edge of the Caribbean, just north of Venezuela.

Lydia, what a hoot that you did a post on Trinidid! Its 3 or 4 hrs from us and you drive thru it when you travel west. Its a small sleepy town and everytime we drive thru it we say "oh, yeah sex change capitol of the world" :) I love the postcard, it really is that beautiful in real life.
I can't get my computer to do the video's, will come back later to see if i can get my computer to do it (sigh)I swear it has a mind of its own :)

Well,if you're going to get a sex change, why not do it in a lovely place such as this? :0)

@DFTP- Uh, nope, not the same...but perhaps you have already read dmarks' explanation in his comments, or perhaps you already knew this and are pulling our legs in jest. What I think of regarding "Trinidad and Tobago" are the Miss World contestants from there. They have such a long name to say and it wraps all across their bods on the banners they wear.

@WW- Yeah, and it seems like a really nice little town in spite of lots of press. Hollywood has been in my small town this week....not kidding.....scoping out the possibilities of a reality show being filmed here. stay tuned.

@Mark- Yes, it is. The video was quite illuminating.

@dmarks- Whose lyrics are those? Could you please hum me a few lines?
Regarding T&T, see my comments to Pixies above.

@the watercats- I totally agree. Last night after I posted this I watched the video and was so touched that I had actual tears falling (and I rarely cry). I miss John Denver.

@Looking to the Stars- Thanks for clearing up that the town is truly still that beautiful. In the video I thought the town looks really charming, actually reminding me of the town where I live. I hope the video worked out for you later on.

@Erin- Good point! I bet those beautiful surroundings are both physically and psychologically healing, and not just for sex change patients.
