Old Postcard Wednesday--Major Relic, Ste-Anne de Beaupre' Shrine, Quebec, Canada

This was news to me: Jesus' grandmother, the woman who gave birth to Mary, was named Anne. She is a saint. And in Quebec there is a huge and beautiful shrine in her honor known as Sainte-Anne de-Beaupre'  Sanctuaire. The topic of this old postcard, La Grande Relique, or Major Relic, is one of three "relics" of Saint Anne at the shrine. This description is from the shrine website:
THE SHRINE HAS IN ITS POSSESSION THREE NOTABLE RELICS OF SAINT ANNE

The FIRST RELIC (a portion of the bone of Saint Anne's finger) was obtained by the Carcassonne Chapter, and was brought to the Shrine on March 12, 1670 by Bishop François de Laval.

The first MAJOR RELIC arrived at the Shrine on July 26, 1892, as a gift from Pope Leo XIII. It is a 4-inch portion of the bone of Saint Anne's forearm. It was obtained from the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, and was brought from Rome to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré by Bishop Joseph-Calixte Canac-Marquis (1821-1904).

Finally, on July 3, 1960, another MAJOR RELIC of Saint Anne (also from her forearm) was brought to the Shrine from St. Paul Outside the Walls, this time as a gift from Blessed Pope John XXIII.

I'm not Catholic, it's been a long week, and I am at a loss for additional words to add here. Therefore, I present to you the Silent Monks singing Halleluia* . . .

Description at youtube: Creative high schools students give a great rendition of Halleluia!

 * With thanks to Darlene at Darlene's Hodgepodge for sharing this video over the holidays. It got me through.......

That's ok, Lydia. Any kind of post, no matter if it's lengthy or not, produces an effect. And speaking of effects, Saint Anne reminds me of the mystery that surrounds the bodies that are left intact by other saints who passed on. They say when that happens, the saint's soul has not yet entirely left the physical plane because there is still some work to do here for that saint. Well, that's one of their theories anyway. I don't know what's really going on. hehe. Great post, btw.

Have a good day!

Well Shut the door and get out of town! It does make sense that Jesus had a grandmother--but I don't believe I have ever heard of her! Thank you, Lydia, for that awesome little kernal of knowledge!

I loooooove the old postcard this week! Awesome!

Melinda

p.s. The word verification for my comment is 'Conan' -- hmmnnnnn, I wonder if this might be a sign from God! :-)

Nancy: Those kids did a great job with the cards in sync with the music. It both tickled and impressed me!

Ryhen: Wow, I've never heard that about the saint's bodies staying intact, etc. Without preservation of any kind that really would be beyond the norm...
I don't know what's going on either, but I did have a good day and I hope yours was fine also. :)

Melinda: Your opening line in your comments is so choice! I tried to remember it at dinner to tell my husband but my mind was too full of other stuff. I'll tell him tomorrow.
I'm really glad that I was not alone in being clueless about Saint Anne, or the shrine in Quebec. Glad you liked this.

Maggie May: Most definitely! What's weird is that once I learn something then I keep having applicable info come at me. Were facts etc. there all along about this thing/person/event that I previously knew nothing about, but because I knew nothing about it I didn't absorb the detail...or do those facts come from the universe now that I have been initiated into the club-of-knowledge concerning that particular thing/person/event? Hmmmmmm.
