quotes by Jacques Cousteau.....advertising by BP

The sea, the great unifier, is man's only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat.

The sea is the universal sewer.

Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans.

If we go on the way we have, the fault is our greed and if we are not willing to change, we will disappear from the face of the globe, to be replaced by the insect.

We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one.

People protect what they love.

~All quotes in this post by the great Jacques Yves Cousteau (1910-1997)

COUSTEAU:
Created in 1973 by Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the Cousteau Society communicates the beauty and fragility of our water planet, believing that an informed and alerted public can best make the choices to insure a healthy and productive world.
Captain Cousteau understood that the support of the greater public is the most effective weapon to win over political decision-makers in the battle for the environment. Each of our members is an important part of this effort.
You can become a member of the Cousteau Society today and add your support for the crucial work to protect the future.

Lydia, my friend--so sorry to have been absent for so long. My life has been pretty much overwhelmed with work and writing!

I think we are all thinking about Jacques Cousteau these days--at least we are all thinking about that terrible devastation in the gulf.

Jacques would be spinning in his grave, thinking about the poor wildlife who are devastated by this disaster. Great post to raise awareness!

"people protect what they love" - wow, that strikes deep... maybe we have to learn to love ourselves, in the true, deep sense of Love, and then we will take care of what we eat and how we live and where we live...

ps I must add that the sea is also women's only hope - maybe even more so than men.

Melinda~ Have been thinking of you as you complete your book. It's very exciting...even from afar!
Tonight on the news I saw one brown pelican totally coated with oil, and I thought he/she is all of us. And I cried.

johno~ I loved his quotes too. BP? Oh, I despise it.
p.s. Thanks for your visit!

m~ You and I zeroed in on the same quote...or it zeroed in on us. I really appreciate your relating the quote to a capacity for self Love and its necessity to heal the planet. That is profound, and now I see the Gulf oil as an oozing manifestation of humanity's self-loathing.

Looking to the Stars~ Actually, neither did I until wondering about his insights last night. Melinda is right...this would devastate him if he knew.
