and the Father-of-the-Year Award goes to:

Be kind to thy father, for when thou wert young, Who loved thee so fondly as he? He caught the first accents that fell from thy tongue, And joined in thy innocent glee.

~ Margaret Courtney

My husband shot this clip on Saturday of a male English Sparrow feeding his three baby birds in the box just outside my office window. He has been the predominant parent of this brood, which is the third for this season in that box already.

This is actually a winter roosting box that we installed over six seasons ago, and there are nesting boxes elsewhere on the property. Because the hole is lower in the roosting box it gives us a unique peek at the babies when they are nearby the hole. So far none have fallen out as they seem to know to wait for their parents to teach them when it is time to leave the nest.

I have so much to share about my time with Dex so be on the lookout for photos and thoughts in the week ahead. We received emails late Saturday night letting us know he arrived safely back in the Philippines.

Wow--amazing footage.
I'm kinda glad my dad never tried to feed me that way, though...

YogforCynics~ I didn't even think of the feeding mode in human terms, although in my own case there would be little applicability since dear old dad left the nest when I was three weeks old!

Love it - talk about a "bird's eye view!"

Nancy~ You get one guess as to where Willow spends a majority of her days right now. :)
