Old Postcard Wednesday--Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado

I posted another postcard of the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun in January 2009, and it covers details about this beautiful structure. Please click HERE to see the additional view and to read about the Shrine.

As a follow up to mid-term elections on Tuesday, and while we wait for all results to be final, I thought the wit and wisdom of Will Rogers was timely! ..... All quotes below are by Will Rogers, great American humorist and showman (1879-1935):

The more you read and observe about this Politics thing, you got to admit that each party is worse than the other. The one that's out always looks the best.

A fool and his money are soon elected.

Politics has become so expensive that it takes a lot of money even to be defeated.

The difference between a Republican and a Democrat is the Democrat is a cannibal they have to live off each other, while the Republicans, why, they live off the Democrats.

Politics is applesauce.

Anything important is never left to the vote of the people. We only get to vote on some man; we never get to vote on what he is to do.

The 1928 Republican Convention opened with a prayer. If the Lord can see His way clear to bless the Republican Party the way it's been carrying on, then the rest of us ought to get it without even asking.

On account of being a democracy and run by the people, we are the only nation in the world that has to keep a government four years, no matter what it does.

There is no more independence in politics than there is in jail.

(This video runs 3:56.) Topic is the 1933 National Industrial Recovery Act (NRA). Will Rogers addresses crowd in clip beginning .37 through 1:37.

As you know, I grew up seeing the Will Rogers Shrine to the Sun. The area has changed so much since I left. The base of Cheyenne mountain is now covered with upscale houses and lovely curving streets.

I always love Will Rogers satire. He nails it every time.

OK - i feel like i should know the name Will Rogers for some reason, but have no idea why this is

I do love this building though - we have this thing here in England called "follies" - which are built on the grounds of big houses and serve no purpose other than for the owner to show how much money they can throw away on an aesthetically pleasing building

And i love the quote about a fool and his money

This is great. No better person to quote from then Will Rogers. His words, to this day, are still meaningful. That's because he always spoke the truth!

This is a great post!!! Thanks for sharing :)

Hope the new governor addresses the problem of excessive public-sector pay. If he doesn't, California will get worse and worse.

Darlene~ Yes, I remembered where you spent your girlhood (married family life, also?). I really hated to read about the development on the mountain. Gads.

Pixies~ Your brain is amazing the way it ties things together. Go to this link and see why I say this!

Belette Rouge~ I bet you did! I get a cheap thrill thinking of all the millions of her own money she spent...to lose!

Looking to the Stars~ Thanks. I wondered if you followed the link to my first post about the Shrine because your family is mentioned in the information.....

dmarks~ How can he not address public sector pay (excessive or otherwise...) while delving into the state budget mess. He would be an idiot if he didn't, and one thing is for sure...Jerry Brown is no idiot (quite the opposite).
