Olympia
Discontented mind losing count of deep breaths, three-plus hours past noon:
One person seeking equilibrium amidst unevenness, imbalance.
Upward arched arms making one imperfect circle below
Five offset, yet perfectly steadfast, rings linking five
Frightfully unstable, Lonely Planet co-inhabitants:
Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania.
Three trees: one tall, one twiggy -
Contented mind losing count.

Imbalance from striving- to arrive, succeed, fulfill...Gracious, I cannot even contemplate the nerves and anticipation of Olympics. If you are centered in the now, your body, your team- who knows how far out the rings could go?
Do you know that every olympics the host nation is allowed to introduce a new game? Some are kept, some others aren't. That's how Beach Volleyball came to be an Olympic Sport.
Me? I want to introduce Musical Chairs
wow...great poem for the olympics opening...lonley planet co-inhabitants...loved it lydia
Big smile...what a great idea to use the Olympics as a starting point. I'm looking forward to the opening tonight, and to watching the world come together in games instead of combat.
The first few lines sound a lot like how I feel doing yoga lately.
"Frightfully unstable, Lonely Planet co-inhabitants" - haunting.
i am sitting here watching the opening as i read this...i like the symbolism in the rings...the bringing together...and i wish that spirit would transfer as well into after them....
Popular theme today...hehehehe
As always Lydia you are PERFECTLY balanced.
Loved your 55
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
izzy~ I loved the expansiveness of your comment. Thank you.
Pixies~ No, I did not know that and I am not sure if you are pulling my leg or not! Just don't pull it if I sit on a musical chair before you!
Melissa~ Thank you for your comment and the follow. :) I read it before the ceremony and thought about you and your husband enjoying the ceremony while my husband and I watched it together. Love the Olympics and how they bring us all together, at least for a time.
Claudia~ I am heartened that you liked this one. Many thanks.
Victoria~ Thank you for a beautiful prompt! I think it put me in the kindly Olympic spirit even before I saw the glorious opening ceremony.
Amber Lee~ I have something to admit to you: I have not stuck with my yoga practice as I planned. Interestingly, I think this poem was me talking to me! (I have been power-walking lately and have been enjoying the aerobic outside activity.)
Brian~ Wasn't that opening ceremony done beautifully? I was inspired by it and wish that spirit would transfer to afterward, as you mentioned.
G-Man~ You are so kind, G. I like to think I live a fairly balanced life, but you never saw me on a balance beam! Back in HS for a six-week period of PE we had to choose between gymnastics and modern dance. Couldn't see myself on those unparallel bars or flying over that horse, nope. I was a dancer. :)
very fitting post as I am watching the Olympics too ~
happy weekend ~
wonderful image for wonderful words
I watched the ceremonies last night. Your poem anticipates them wonderfully. Wouldn't it be wonderful if that spirit--that balance could last longer than two weeks, and be present more often than every four years?
Can't beat a perfect circle of 'now'...
I really enjoyed the way you contrast the rings and the human beneath them. the perfect with the imperfect. The contrast in my mind between the ideal of perfect movement in time/space contrasted with the ordinary reality of humans being who and what they are. That dialectic works really well in the picture and in your poem.
a great one for the Olympics! you truly caught the spirit of it! Wonderfully done. Have you a great weekend.hugs shakira
Mine is here
The Olympics seems always to depict the many kinds of dedication, focus, and pursuits of excellence. I find it inspiring. And that you have countries from around the world in peaceful oneness with being the best they (we) can. The Olympics always inspires me to do better at whatever I am doing.
Heaven~ I wish my setup was more conducive to having my laptop where I view TV.....but when I am viewing TV there is always a cat in my lap!
Happy weekend to you too.
Kathe~ Thanks, and I was really attracted to that image too.
ds~ Yes, it certainly would. I was filled with good feelings during that opening ceremony, and intend to hold onto them as long as I can.
Jinksy~ Can't beat a perfectly succinct comment, either!
chazinator~ Your comments are always so thoughtful and I appreciate them so much.
Shakira~ What fun you created with your name...and your comments here!
mythopolis~ I read comments way earlier today and am just now back here. Thought about your last sentence so much during the day. It says it all.
Beautifull photos and great blog!
