song of yesterday

In my sidebar the second goody from the top is A.Word.A.Day, and when I saw that today's word is Beau Brummel it brought back memories of an early 1960s group, The Beau Brummels. Wow, what a simpler time although I think I romanticize it in my memories. I still love the music from back then. Like "they" say: listening to songs from your past takes you right back to the moment in time when the music was current.

This video is offered at youtube by someone named John1948One who provides great information about the group, including:
While they only had two big hits, the Beau Brummels were one of the most important and underrated American groups of the 1960s. They were the first U.S. unit of any sort to successfully respond to the British Invasion. They were arguably the first folk-rock group, even predating the Byrds, and also anticipated some key elements of the San Francisco psychedelic sound with their soaring harmonies and exuberant melodies. Before they finally reached the end of the string, they were also among the first bands to record country-rock in the late '60s.
The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame lists this song, Laugh Laugh, as one of the 500 greatest songs in rock history. It was one of my favorites, most definitely. The video is a splice of two separate performances, with some brief hysterical dancing. Check out that Frug and that Jerk!

For more information on The Beau Brummels visit the website established by Sal Valentino, the group's lead singer, who still performs with his own band.

While on the topic of music...... I've become a huge fan of Alexa Ray Joel (she is the daughter of Billy Joel and Christy Brinkley). There are some bootleg videos of her performances at youtube but they are of poor quality. However, Alexa has her own youtube channel where she currently offers three videos, one featuring a song titled: Song of Yesterday that I can't stop listening to. There is no embed code for videos at her channel so I can't post it here. If you have a spare moment to click on the link I promise you won't be disappointed. I think she is absolutely marvelous and I hope she makes a cd soon. She's been blessed with true talent and exotic beauty.......I think she's simply a shining star.
