With a fire at the Universal Studios lot last week I thought I'd post this postcard of Warner Bros Studios this week. I've never visited either Universal or Warner Bros but after reading information about the Warner Bros VIP Tours I became enthusiast to see it sometime.
The tour website says that it "may well be the best overall studio tour available to the general public. . . . and one of Hollywood's best-kept secrets." In comparison to the Universal Studios tours where tourists board monster trams to drive through theme park rides, the Warner Bros VIP tours are limited to small groups of fifteen people maximum. These more personal tours ensure a look at the real studio back lot and a tour guide ready to answer questions.
The website includes good photos, including a recent one with a view similar to this old postcard (that depicts perhaps late 1940's?). I was surprised to see how little change there actually has been since the postcard shot. The same buildings still stand and the location appears to have contained growth from becoming sprawl.
The studio is located at the intersection Olive Avenue, Pass Avenue, and Barham Boulevard, in Burbank (in the San Fernando Valley), just a few blocks southeast of NBC Studios and Disney Studios, and northeast of Universal Studios. / From Universal Studios, take Lankershim Boulevard half a mile north to Riverside Drive. Turn right (east), and take Riverside Drive east (about a mile and a half) to Hollywood Way. Turn right again (south), and take Hollywood Way to the studio gate. / From the Ventura (134) Freeway east, exit on the Pass Avenue offramp. Turn right on Pass Avenue and follow it southeast for about half a mile, to where it intersects with Olive Street next to the studio. Look for the giant movie posters - you can't miss it.
