In the Garden - sung by Lydia Pangburn

In the Garden was my mother's favorite hymn. It held deep personal meaning for her, and, now that she is gone, I feel close to her when I hear it. So I sought a video clip of In the Garden to use here to close out my series of garden-themed blog posts...and found this one by a young girl named Lydia!

Our shared name is not my reason for featuring her version of the song. I could have given you Elvis, or Loretta Lynn, a man named Jack Marti, several gospel groups, or a teenage boy known as nickalo8 doing a quite respectable imitation of Brad Paisley singing this song. But I chose sweet Lydia Pangburn's earnest and pure a capella interpretation because I know in my heart it is the one that would have brought tears to my mother's eyes.

Hymns were my favorite part about church, and that is a beautiful song. She has a lovely voice! Thanks for sharing.

Lydia, this is also one of my favorites. Lydia P. has a sweet voice.

I love Johnny Cash' version from "My Mother's Hymn Book" (seems to be connected to mothers) which you can hear here

Wayfaring Wanderer, and Francessa,
Lydia P. really did a very good job on this hymn. And thanks, F, for the link to the Johnny Cash version; it's wonderful! Also, so interesting to see a YouTube connection different than the one we access here.

Lydia (and Lydia),
This was my mother's favorite hymn, too. And it's mine. I'm glad you chose this version, it's sweet and pure, the way I wish I could sing it, and probably did when I was young.

My mother was also a writer who lived in Oregon, because she loved it. She belonged there, I think.

Petrea,
What an absolutely beautiful comment, beginning to end. Thank you.

i've never heard this hymm, but i enjoyed listening to it ... it reminded me of my favorite 85 year old aunt. She used to get annoyed when her sisters would call and say, "why didn't you go to church today?". And she'd say -- "I don't need to, I was talking to God in my garden!"

What a charming story about your aunt, Honour. She sounds like my kind of aunt!

Lydia (and Lydia P),
What a precious way to remember your mother, and yes, Lydia P. does as a beautiful voice. Of course, I may be a bit biased since I'm her mother. By the way, I write too, and am trying to concentrate on getting published. Enjoyed visiting your blog and will stop by again.
Blessings from Costa Rica

Kathie,
Reading your comment made my day sparkle! Thank you for getting in touch, and I'd love for you to visit again. My sister and her family vacationed in Costa Rica three summers ago, and my cousin's son is planning a move there by the end of this year. It looks like such a beautiful place.
Best wishes on getting published, but I think your greatest accomplishment has been raising such a dear girl!

Lydia P,
(This "Lydia/Lydia said..." in comments can get confusing for people because blogger isn't using last names or initials!) Well, thank you for including the link to your blog and I will visit, if not this weekend then next week. I'm sure you are proud of your husband; I've heard that airborne training is extremely difficult.

Where I am open to the beauty of many faiths I certainly do think that your sincerity has graced my blog! Thank you for your sweet nature and for sharing your lovely voice with us all.
