Michael took these shots of Abby last week when I was away from the house. She has cozy dog pads on the living room rug for lounging during the day and is not usually allowed on the couch. Today, however, if she wants to I will let her sleep there while I continue painting the kitchen/office and while Michael puts in yet another weekend day at the office. I think we all need a day at the beach soon, that is what I think, and I think Abby is dreaming of that too.
For those of you who don't know how Abby came into our lives here is Abby's Story (it includes a photo of us at the Oregon coast)...
Paul McCartney has raised Old English Sheepdogs for years, loves them dearly, and wrote Martha my dear about one of his favorites...

It seems Pickles and Abby have a lot in common. Both are Katrina survivors. I have no idea where Pickles came from before finding her way to the agency that provided her. I do know what it's like to get those soulful stares.
Abby looks like a pure delight to have the honor of loving. (Hugs)Indigo
And what an adorable couch potato she is.
That's one of the the better dog songs out there, along with Neil Young's "Old King."
Hi to Abby. She is doing no harm and is beautifully groomed. My ex-fosters are plotting a reunion. I have asked to be on the guest list.
Abby looks almost like one of those Dali paintings where things are starting to melt and ooze... She looks totally content there on the sofa, I'm sure it would take a hard-hearted person to try to shoo her off of there...
:-)
Oh, I love her! She looks soooo hugable and kissable. What a great dog you have and she has a great owner :)
Ahh, I love Paul McCartney!
Painting, I don't envy you. I'd rather paint on a canvas then a room in the house. Unfortunately, this is something I need to do this spring/summer. The living room and bedroom needs it but the office can wait another year. Have fun, kiddo :)
Looks more like a draught excluder to me!
Indigo- Pickles! What a darling name for a dog! And another Katrina story...I wish we could take Pickles and our dogs to the park so they could swap stories.
(You are right; it is an honor loving Abby.)
YogaforCynics- She's always adorable, no matter where she parks her beautiful body. "Old King" is a great song and that album it's on is one of my all-time favorites.
English Rider- Ex-fosters and a reunion? That sounds like fun. We wished so much that we could take Abby back to Texas to the annual TX Old English Sheepdog Rescue picnic. The wonderful man who fostered her twice (!) sent the invitations and we said we'd definitely try to make one of them so we could meet him in person. Sadly, he had a fatal heart attack last year. We still mourn Steve's loss around here because he had a huge influence on our lives in matching us with Abby. (I will pass along your compliment to Abby's groomer!)
Owen- Loved your Dali description of Abby. Come to think of it, she has a similar appearance on summer days out lying in the grass.
Shoo her? Reason with her? ....It's just best to take a picture of her. :)
Looking to the Stars- You are right that Abby is hugable and kissable, and she adores both. She is very special.
I waited until late to come into the office to reply to comments at my blog because the paint smell is still strong in here. I have to really make myself a self-starter the next days and get this project completed. It's not fun. I am impressed that you paint on canvas, my friend!
Friko- You get my gold star today for making me research your comment! I thought I knew what you meant (and I was correct) but I wanted to be sure. Yes, if Abby were to nestle herself against the door she could serve that purpose quite well! We do have draft stops at both the front and back doors. I didn't make them but in my research I found these instructions for making one. :)
It's so hard to kick a dog off a couch. At least it is for me. They always look so damn comfortable and at peace. I hate to be the one that ruins that.
Looks so cute with a great personality. Hugs!
Kim- Older dogs, especially! Abby and Bonbon are both over nine now, and last year I got them big orthopedic dog beds in the laundry room. They seem to appreciate them.
Phivos- Abby does have a great personality. And then there are those soulful eyes.....
beautiful!.. and it's strange to see a clipped out version :-).. she is gorgeous!
I now have sheep dog envy!
the watercats- "Clipped out version" - cute description! I most love an OES when they are about mid-growth, like a big stuffed toy. But we have three giant Sequoias in our backyard that especially in winter shed the nastiest/sticky/profuse needles that attach to the dogs and embed into the fur. Close-clipping them is for their comfort and our sanity. This is not to say that Abby hasn't had an overgrown coat once or twice, but none of us prefers it that way. :)
Erin- Welcome to the OES Lovers Society! There's no other dog like them, that's for sure. I wish that I had had the joy of growing up around Old English Sheepdogs, wish I'd been able to have had more of them in my life (like McCartney!).
Thanks for stopping by to see Lucy at play, Lydia.
Awww, Abby looks so sweet...poor thing is so drowsy. But you know you're treading on dangerous grounds here, Lydia. One or two more times allowed on that couch and she'll claim it as her own! :o) Dogs are so smart and crafty. I hope that Abby and family make it to the beach soon!
Wow -- Abby has quite a story. She looks like a content girl on that couch. When my husband was out of town earlier this week, we let Nora sleep on the bed. She took to it quite well. It's nice to do that for the pups every once in a while.
earthtoholly~ I loved seeing her at play and we really enjoyed our tour of the area.
Still no beach trip...maybe when Michael has a week off in mid-Feb.
Jennifer~ Content, most definitely.
Nora got lucky! I love her name, btw.
