Saucer Dogs by Rudy Rucker

Not a Midsummer Night's Dream

Morning urges woke the puppy
and I ignored her whimpers
to finish my dream of UFOs.

Still dazed by the strange visit
and remembering our saucer-melted fence,
I saw the dog to her escape.
We stared then together
at what night brought as we dreamed.

Two timid steps forward acquainted
puppy with the crunch-joy
of her first snow.

I saw this image online and it reminded me of a poem I wrote many years ago. Consider it a whimsical placeholder between Christmas and Old Postcard Wednesday posts! Enjoy the final days of your family gatherings, and if you are about to get on the roads to head home please take care.

How much is that puppy in the flying saucer window? :-P

They look so happy! It's fun to watch a new puppy learn about the world.

My niece perhaps saw a UFO the other night near White Salmon WA- but it could have been this :
"A ball of light streaking across the night sky in northern Europe on Saturday at a time when many imagined that Father Christmas was doing his rounds was nothing more than Soyuz rocket debris, Belgian experts say..."
Happy New Year!

I don't know why but I dreamed last night that I'd been given a pale blonde cocker spaniel puppy. Maybe it's because more people around here have dogs than I've ever seen before. Then again, I do love dogs and seeing one take his first tentative steps into the snow is a strong memory. The poem is lovely.

I hope you've had an enjoyable Christmas.

Fireblossom~ Since reading your comment that old song has been stuck in my mind. It replaced Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, for which I will be eternally thankful to you. :)

Kathe~ Soyuz rocket debris could be fatal to flying reindeer. Call in the ASPCA!
But the possible viewing by your niece? That is intriguing and exciting to think about. :)

susan~ Thank you. Oh, susan, maybe you have an angel dog watching over you....or perhaps you are dreaming of one to come. Perhaps he/she simply wants to come through in one of your drawings. My first dog greeted me when I was born and we grew together long enough for me to remember her. She was a black cocker spaniel, and the sweetest dog. It is a fine breed.

Kind of like the Jetsons carton? I have wonderful memories of times with our family dog as a child in the snow. I also believe in UFO's for sure! We can't be the only one's around...

Lydia I just posted two songs I think you will greatly enjoy. I finally got all my 300 albums out of storage, after all these years and am playing Mary Travers solo albums the most..so posted a few I love that I found on youtube. I really am enjoying playing them on my new old "vintage looking" Xmas record player I got for Christmas. Hope you will like the songs. Drop by when you can.

It's been so cold here but never got the snow "yet"..usually around Christmas time we get a bit of snow..

Hope your holidays are happy and peaceful.

Love,

Rhi

Rhi~ So good to hear from you and to be caught up a little. I will definitely be by to see/hear your blog soon. You know that I admire your eclectic taste in music! I am so happy for you that you got a record player to listen to your (huge) record collection. :)
The holidays have been very sweet this year for me, and I hope that is true for you also. Here we go, almost on to a new year....
