Lena Horne dies at 92.
Quote from The New York Times article:
Looking back at the age of 80, Ms. Horne said: “My identity is very clear to me now. I am a black woman. I’m free. I no longer have to be a ‘credit.’ I don’t have to be a symbol to anybody; I don’t have to be a first to anybody. I don’t have to be an imitation of a white woman that Hollywood sort of hoped I’d become. I’m me, and I’m like nobody else.”

I saw her perform in London at the Albert Hall. It was extraordinary to see her live.
Lena was a very courageous and beautiful woman. She had to overcome many obstacles in her life and she surmounted them all. The quote you used is most appropriate.
Her beautiful vibrant voice may be stilled, but she will live on in the memory of those who heard her sing.
Yes, she was so beautiful.
La Belette Rouge~ It's wonderful that you were able to see her live. And in London, yet. Wow.
Darlene~ Surmounted all obstacles...that cannot be said of many at the end of their lives. Pretty darned amazing.
Phivos~ Yes, indeed.
Great tribute, thanks for doing a post about her. I saw that she had passed away. Another era gone and I felt sad. Great pics :)
Looking to the Stars~ Yes, another era gone but I think she will be remembered well beyond some other stars of her era. At least I hope so.
