for Christina Taylor Green on the day of her funeral service

The Child-Angel
     -by Rabindranath Tagore

They clamour and fight, they doubt and despair, they know no end
to their wrangling.
Let your life come amongst them like a flame of light, my
child, unflickering and pure, and delight them into silence.
They are cruel in their greed and their envy, their words are like
hidden knives thirsting for blood.
Go and stand amidst their scowling hearts, my child, and let
your gentle eyes fall upon them like the forgiving peace of the
evening over the strife of the day.
Let them see your face, my child, and thus know the meaning
of all things; let them love you and thus love each other.
Come and take your seat in the bosom of the limitless, my
child. At sunrise open and raise your heart like a blossoming
flower, and at sunset bend your head and in silence complete the
worship of the day.

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) Indian poet, playwright and essayist;
won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.

This is Number Nine in a randomly-posted, continuing series of quotes by Tagore.
Everything he wrote is golden.

I feel just some small part of a collective heartache when contemplating this.

Hi. I came over from Roxana's blog because you made reference to the horrible tragedy in Tucson. I have not found words to express my sadness or even strength to muster much hope, yet. But am comforted to find ways that others have found to express their thoughts and share their expressions. It's a shame we didn't connect with a different backdrop, but I admire your reflective and sensitive post.

There is another one like Christina Taylor Green: Scott Calvin Dieter, the Angel of Copley, Ohio. Dieter was born in Russia and he was the adoptive son of a former United States Army Captain Craig Brian Eric and Beth Ann (Laufer) Dieter. The gunman of Dieter was shot dead by Ben (never "Benjamin") A. Campbell. Campbell said, "I am not a hero, I am just a policeman."
